OSMRE notifies Oklahoma of jurisdiction adjustment following McGirt vs Oklahoma decision

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) has notified the Oklahoma Department of Mines (ODM) and the Oklahoma Conservation Commission (OCC) that under the US Supreme Court decision McGirt v. Oklahoma, 140 S. Ct. 2452 (2020), the State may no longer exercise regulatory jurisdiction under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA) on Indian Lands within the State.
OSMRE will work with the State of Oklahoma and consult with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation towards a responsible and orderly transition of SMCRA responsibilities on the Muscogee (Creek) Reservation to OSMRE.
In 2020, in the McGirt v. Oklahoma case, the Supreme Court legally recognised the on-going existence of the historic Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation within the State of Oklahoma. BYU Athletics alumni Derwin and Vicki Gray were invited to speak to BYU student-athletes during Black History Month on Feb. 16-17, sharing a message centered on “being the change you want to see,” in efforts to “root out racism.”
BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe and Senior Associate Athletic Director Liz Darger reached out to the Grays in January, and the couple accepted the invitation to return to their alma mater where they met and addressed current student-athletes.

As a favor to the community I m posting President Biden s order to agencies to undertake a review of Trump era environmental regulations.
Yesterday was also an important day for Mother Nature and the nation. The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit unanimously tossed the Trump administration s replacement for Obama s Clean Power Plan (CPP) back to EPA. The Agency will now be coming out with some version of the CPP.
Look for my continuing comments on these and other Biden administration efforts to put the nation s economy on a low-carbon trajectory.
