Congressional Gold Medal given to last living Chinese American WWII veteran in Ventura County

94-year-old Arnold Jue was honored with a Congressional Gold Medal earlier this month. He is the last living Chinese American WWII veteran in Ventura County
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. – A tremendous honor was bestowed upon one of our nation s heroes this month.
Arnold Jue, 94, from Santa Paula received the Congressional Gold Medal on behalf of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (C.A.C.A.) Congressional Gold Medal Committee on April 11. Jue is the last living Chinese American WWII veteran in Ventura County.
Jue grew up in Parlier, California in Fresno County. He began his military service after graduating high school in 1944. ....

The flag flying over the bandstand during February is in honor of Marvin Snider.
Marvin enlisted in the army on Sept. 30, 1946, in Fort Crook, Nebraska. He served as a water supply technician in Japan with Battery A of the 1st FA Battalion in Japan after the surrender of the Japanese. He was discharged on July 28, 1948, at Stoneman, California and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
After he returned to Iowa, he went back to work at Cargill in Washington. Marvin worked at several jobs and farmed until going to work as a mechanic at Buck Walter’s Motors in Washington, Iowa, a career that lasted 29 years. After he retired in 1994, he moved to Nevada, Missouri to be near family. During his time in Nevada, Marvin worked part-time for Wilkinson Pharmacy. He resided there for the next 15 years and moved to Oskaloosa in 2010. ....

Earl Dean Browning, age 95, of Godfrey, Illinois, passed away at home in the early morning hours of Monday, February 22, 2021.
Dean was born January 21, 1926, in Annawan, Illinois, to Earl Franklin and Velma Lucille (Moon) Browning. A star basketball player, he graduated from Annawan High School in 1944. Following high school, Dean served his country from 1944 to 1946 in the United States Army rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant (Platoon Leader) in the Anti-tank Company 35
th Infantry Regiment 25
th Division, Tropic Lightning. Dean was awarded the Bronze Star for gallantry for serving 165 consecutive days in frontline combat service including the invasion of Luzon, the taking of the Balete Pass and the capture of Santa Fe. He was also awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was among the first Occupation Troops in Japan. ....
