Archaeologists have made a major discovery about the life of Harriet Tubman and her family, uncovering the former homesite of Tubman’s father, Ben Ross.
Remains of the home were unearthed in Dorchester County, Maryland, the rural Eastern Shore community where the famed abolitionist was born Araminta Ross in 1822.
“This discovery adds another puzzle piece to the story of Harriet Tubman, the state of Maryland, and our nation,” said Maryland Lieutenant Governor Boyd K. Rutherford during an April ceremony at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center. “It is important that we continue to uncover parts of our history that we can learn from, especially when ....

Exclusive: Meet One of Harriet Tubman's Relatives

When Harriet Tubman died on March 10, 1913 at age 91, the storied abolitionist left the world a legacy of freedom, fearlessness and fierce advocacy for Black people, women and all Americans.
She was born Araminta “Minty” Ross in Dorchester County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore circa 1822. Tubman spent nearly three decades in bondage before escaping the inhumanity of slavery. (Watch the short film Harriet Tubman: Soldier of Freedom.)
Known as “Moses,” she repeatedly risked her life as a “conductor” on the Underground Railroad, a network of safe houses. Among those she liberated were her own beloved parents.
During the Civil War, Tubman was a spy, scout, nurse, and cook for the Union Army. She was the first woman to lead an armed military operation, the Combahee River Raid, in South Carolina in 1863, which led to hundreds of enslaved people being freed from neighboring plantations. In February 2021, Tubman was inducted into the U.S. Army Military Intel ....

Kay C. James: Why Aren't Conservative Women Recognized During Women's History Month? — The Patriot Post

Just as the likes of the great conservative Justice Clarence Thomas — the only Black justice on the U.S. Supreme Court — are often left out of mentions of Black History Month in February, so too, are many conservative women often ignored during Women’s History Month in March.
The media and entertainment industries tend to downplay many of the contributions made by outstanding trailblazing women — if they also happen to hold conservative viewpoints. The left regularly dismisses such women as less worthy of recognition and role modeling, and in doing so, leaves out a significant part of history from “women’s history.” ....
