Ted Yoho, Ensign Savannah Turner, Jada Roulhac, Kiera J. Parrish honored


Ensign Savannah Turner of Gainesville, U.S. Coast Guard reservist and veteran, University of Florida Ph.D. student, and former UF IFAS Extension Agent, is the April 2021 Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Veteran of the Month. Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried made the announcement. 
The Veteran of the Month program was established by Fried, shortly after taking office. The award recognizes veterans who have excelled in service to fellow Floridians through agriculture, consumer protection, or other means; and honors the contributions that the men and women in uniform have made to the  state.

The former governor of Missouri Eric Greitens is running for the U.S. Senate. Perhaps most importantly for
SOFREP readers, Greitens was also a Navy SEAL officer. For those who may be unfamiliar with his background, here is a brief primer. He was born in St. Louis, MO in 1974 and attended Duke University with a scholarship. While there he was selected as a Rhodes Scholar and a Truman Scholar. He received his Ph.D. from Oxford University where he wrote his dissertation on how international humanitarian organizations work with children around the world. He was also an accomplished athlete: A gold medalist in the BUSA national boxing championships; a sub-three-hour marathon runner; and a black belt and gold medalist sparring champion in Taekwondo.  ....

Volunteering for the Great Place


Several Soldiers from Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers were in force on April 7 to assist the Courses of Clear Creek in a beautification project.
From prepping and painting the pavilion, to landscaping the gardens and shrubbery around the main building, BOSS volunteers took a day to help out the local community with some much-needed area improvements.
“So, last week we had the BOSS Soldiers out here, pressure washing the entire pavilion … and getting all the loose paint and preparation for the painting that is actually happening today,” Spc. Travis Boreni, Fort Hood BOSS treasurer, said. “We assisted with a bunch of tree-trimming and then pulling some of the foliage that was killed during the winter storm. ....

After the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol last week, Washington, D.C., is beefing up security measures ahead of the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
Up to 20,000 armed National Guard troops are set to be deployed to the Washington area to prevent further violence. Images on Wednesday showed troops resting with their guns on the marble floors of congressional hallways after the attack that left five people dead.
