The U.S. has been placed on a list of countries Russia considers to be unfriendly despite optimism of a summit between Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin taking place this summer.
Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced over the weekend that the U.S. would be on the list following a presidential decree on April 23.
In a graphic on Russia s Channel 1 headlined List of countries unfriendly to Russia, the U.S. was at the top.
Also named were: Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Czech Republic, Estonia, United Kingdom and Georgia. Another screen grab from Channel 1, circulating on social media, also showed Australia in the group. ....

The Religious Leaders of Cyprus that make up the Religious Track of the Cyprus Peace Process (RTCYPP) have jointly expressed their best wishes for the meetings starting in Geneva on Tuesday to end the stalemate of the divided island’s peace process.

A top aide to Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that a possible summit between the Russian leader and his US counterpart Joe Biden could take place in June.
Biden earlier this month offered a meeting between the two leaders in a neutral country, as tensions between Russia and the West escalated sharply over the conflict in Ukraine, new sanctions on Moscow and the health of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.
The Kremlin has said it is still considering the offer, but on Sunday, Putin’s top foreign policy aide, Yury Ushakov, said that planning is underway. June is being named, there are even concrete dates, Ushakov said on state-run television channel Rossiya-1. ....

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) Southeast Asian leaders are to meet Myanmar’s top general and coup leader in an emergency summit in Indonesia Saturday, and are expected to press calls for an end to violence by security forces that has left hundreds of protesters dead as well as the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and other political detainees. There is little hope for an immediate breakthrough in the two-hour gathering in Jakarta between Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing and the heads of state of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. But his decision to face them offers a rare chance for the 10-nation bloc to directly deal with the general who ousted one of its leaders in a Feb. 1 coup. “The unfolding tragedy has serious consequences for Myanmar, ASEAN and the region,” Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said on the eve of the summit. ....

The United States and other countries hiked their targets for slashing greenhouse gas emissions at a global climate summit hosted by President Joe Biden, an event meant to resurrect U.S. leadership in the fight against global warming.
Biden unveiled the goal to cut emissions by 50%-52% from 2005 levels at the start of a two-day climate summit kicked off on Earth Day and attended virtually by leaders of 40 countries including big emitters China, India and Russia. ....
