The Minnesota State High School League voted Tuesday to create a high school wrestling tournament for girls to compete in.
“Today's meeting demonstrated the significant desire for youth sports programs to be adopted by the Minnesota State High School League and for students to have the opportunity to represent their school as they compete,” said Erich Martens, the League’s Executive Director. “The decision by our membership to offer our girls in wrestling the chance to compete for individual honors in their own postseason division is a big step. Minnesota now joins other regional states like North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, Kansas and Missouri in offering this opportunity for girls wrestlers.”

The underlying reason that brought it about hasn't gone anywhere, though.
"It doesn't feel like we should be celebrating, because my JV game got canceled because of a positive case on the other team,'' Prior Lake boys' lacrosse coach Casey Mithun said. "I don't know how that gets better if now we're not wearing masks."

MSHSL Asking for Outdoor Athletes to be Allowed to Compete Without Masks

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (Learfield) The Minnesota State High School League wants students to be able to play outdoor sports without wearing masks.
The board of directors sent a recommendation statement to the Minnesota Department of Health for review.  It calls for students to wear masks at all times except when they are actually competing.
That includes masking up in the dugout for softball and baseball or at the conclusion of a track meet or race. M.S.H.S.L. executive director Erich Martens said they hope to work collaboratively with the state Health Department to modify their guidance on the wearing of masks in outdoor competitions.

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Zoo has vaccinated nine great apes for the coronavirus after a troop of gorillas in its Safari Park became infected.
Officials say four orangutans and five bonobos received COVID-19 injections in January and February.
Three bonobos and a gorilla also are expected to receive the vaccine, which is experimental.
The vaccinations followed a January outbreak of COVID-19 at the zoo’s Safari Park. Eight western lowland gorillas got the virus, probably by exposure to a zookeeper who tested positive for COVID-19.
