Judge Denies Capitol Riot Suspect Claim of Medical Issues, Stay in Jail

Christopher Worrell, a member of the Proud Boys, was charged in March with joining the Capitol riot.
Worrell, who has non-Hodgkin s lymphoma, asked to be freed from jail, saying he was being denied adequate treatment.
A judge denied the request Wednesday and said Worrell s medical conditions had not worsened.
A federal judge has said that a Capitol riot suspect who claims his medical condition is worsening in jail was lying, and declined to free him, court documents show.
Christopher Worrell, a member of the Proud Boys, was arrested in Florida in March and accused of pepper-spraying Capitol Police officers during the riot, engaging in violence and disorderly conduct, and other charges. ....

House Homeland Security Committee announces agreement on bipartisan commission to investigate January 6 coup attempt
On Friday, the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Benny Thompson (Democrat-Mississippi), and the top Republican on the committee, John Katko (New York), released a statement announcing that an agreement had been reached to “introduce legislation to form a bipartisan, independent Commission to investigate the January 6 domestic terrorism attack on the United States Capitol and recommend changes to further protect the Capitol.”

WASHINGTON Christopher Worrell, a member of the Proud Boys far-right group who allegedly assaulted police officers with pepper spray gel during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, will stay in jail while he awaits his trial, the D.C. Circuit
ruled. Worrell disputed the lower court’s “dangerousness” determination and argued his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma puts him at increased risk of Covid-19, which he was recently diagnosed with.  ....

East Naples man arrested in connection to Capitol riot contracts COVID-19 in jail


Worrell was extradited from Southwest Florida and has been housed at the Central Detention Facility in Washington D.C. since April 13, according to court documents.  
Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, denied bond for Worrell on March 19 and ruled he must remain in custody until his trial, according to court documents. 
Attorneys representing Worrell filed an emergency motion on Match 26 that stated Worrell has cancer and was at risk of complications from COVID-19 exposure while in custody.  
At the time, Worrell was held at the Charlotte County Jail in Punta Gorda. The emergency motion requested the court reconsider the man’s pretrial detention so that he could be released from custody while awaiting trial.   ....
