Abia/Akwa Ibom boundary dispute claims 28 lives

The member representing Ikwuano constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Stanley Nwabuisi, has cried out over deteriorating clashes between the people of Ariam Usaka Ukwu community and the neighboring Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State over a boundary dispute.
Speaking on Saturday during an interview with newsmen, Nwabuisi lamented that lives have been lost and properties destroyed in Ariam Usaka Ukwu Ikwuano and that people of the area have lost 28 persons to the crisis.
 
The Abia lawmaker, who noted that people of the area are law-abiding, stated that they have since halted retaliation against the people of Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

High cost of marriage, bride price preventing our women from getting married – Imo Lawmaker

The member representing Obowo State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, Kennedy Ibeh, has sponsored a bill to regulate the outrageous cost of customary marriages in Imo State.
Ibeh, while presenting the bill for the second reading on Wednesday during plenary, said that the practice predominant in Igboland, had caused so many of the young ladies to remain single.
According to him, “a suitor coming to pay for a lady’s dowry may find it tasking to settle for the English wedding which again demands for more expenses. 
“Part of the prayers of this bill is that once a suitor pays and completes the bride price of a lady, a clearance certificate should be issued to the groom by the father of the bride, who will present same to the traditional ruler of the community for the final issuance of Customary Marriage Certificate (CMC) at the cost not exceeding N1000.

64K Migrants Apprehended in Texas-Based Border Sectors in Feb. — Up 27 Percent from Jan.
Border Patrol agents assigned to the five Texas-based sectors apprehended nearly 64,000 migrants in February. This represents an increase of more than 27 percent from the previous month.
Agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Del Rio, Big Bend, and El Paso Sectors apprehended 63,734 migrants in February, according to the Southwest Border Land Encounters Report released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Wednesday. This represents an increase of 13,619 migrants over the January report. Note: The El Paso Sector includes apprehensions in New Mexico.
The Texas sectors account for 65 percent of all migrant border apprehensions, the report indicates.

The country's first large-scale Covid-19 vaccination clinic opened in South Auckland today, marking another step forward in New Zealand's vaccine roll-out plans.
Director general of health Ashley Bloomfield said around 150 people a day will get vaccinated at the East Tamaki clinic initially.

That bill is now headed back to the House for final approval.
Among those who voted were U.S. Senators who represent Alabama, Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Sen. Richard Shelby. Both Senators voted against the bill.
U.S. Sen. Tuberville released a statement Saturday afternoon saying he said voted against the bill because he believes it is a broken promise to the American people.
