Nearly 3,000 barrels of “life-threatening” nuclear waste have reportedly been misplaced in Sweden, raising concerns about potential environmental impacts and prompting calls for an urgent re-inspection of the radioactive material.
A stock control inspection has recently found that 2,800 barrels containing historical radioactive waste from the 1970s and 1980s were stored incorrectly in a warehouse in Forsmark, Uppland County.
The Forsmark nuclear plant and repository, located some 100 kilometers north of Stockholm, contains over 30,000 cubic meters of radioactive waste.

No CWD Detected in North Carolina Deer Herd | Outdoor News Daily

No CWD Detected in North Carolina Deer Herd
RALEIGH, N.C. – No evidence of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been detected in the state’s wild white-tailed deer herd, according to biologists with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.
As part of their annual CWD surveillance effort during the 2020-21 sampling season, wildlife biologists collected 1,042 deer tissue samples across the state from hunters, meat processors, taxidermists, road-kills and sick deer. The samples were sent to the Wisconsin Veterinarian Diagnostic Lab, a USDA approved laboratory for testing.
“Our sampling size was lower than the previous two years, likely due to COVID-19,” stated Jon Shaw, wildlife biologist with the Wildlife Commission. “However, the results are good news for North Carolina hunters, wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists. CWD is the single biggest concern for deer herds and deer hunting in North America. CWD surveillance indicates our state is doing a great job managing limiting exposure to this highly contagious illness.”

Sullom Voe Terminal operator given health and safety notice over pipework inspections

THE OPERATOR of Sullom Voe Terminal has received an improvement notice from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after failing to ensure that ‘dead-leg’ pipework at the site was inspected at “suitable intervals”.
The improvement notice was served to terminal operator EnQuest in mid-February.
It warned that failing to inspect the pipework in question regularly could give rise to the loss of flammable and dangerous substances.

A spokesperson said the oil company will “fully comply with the terms of the notice”.
Dead-leg pipework is piping containing process builds under stagnant, no or low flow conditions, and internal corrosion can be aggressive leading to accelerated thinning of the pipe wall.
