PHOENIX, April 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The final full day of operations for Grand Canyon University's COVID-19 vaccination site will be Monday, April 26, as the state and county transition Point of Dispensing (POD) sites to indoor locations.
The GCU POD, which opened to the public on Jan. 26, was unique in that it was operated by the University's staff and student/employee volunteers for free – saving taxpayers significant amounts of money. The GCU site is expected to administer more than 115,000 vaccines in its three months of operations.

When the Maricopa County health department was starting to run out of money for additional Covid-19 vaccination sites,
Brian Mueller stepped up and offered the Grand Canyon University campus as a site for free.
"We just thought we needed to set an example," the GCU president said. "We need more volunteerism. When there are crisis periods, we just need a lot more volunteerism to get things done versus having to have the government spend more money all the time."

PHOENIX — Migrant encounters at Arizona’s U.S.-Mexico border increased 60 percent from February to March, causing the state’s attorney general to file a federal lawsuit challenging President Biden’s immigration policy, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to send money to Pima county to cover the costs to care and house asylum-seekers.
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s latest lawsuit seeks for the border wall construction to resume, to halt the processing of asylum-seekers, and to reinstate the “public charge” that penalizes migrants that request public benefits in the U.S.

Immigrant advocates push against Arizona's top prosecutor

PHOENIX (AP) — A Latino civil rights organization has filed a lawsuit against Arizona's top prosecutor on behalf of nonprofit groups that say his efforts to block President Joe Biden's changes to past immigration policy are unlawful.
The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund on Tuesday filed the lawsuit against Attorney General Mark Brnovich for the Arizona-based Puente Human Rights Movement, Chicanos Por La Causa and the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project. The groups provide services to immigrants.
The Tuesday filing seeks to void an agreement Brnovich signed with former President Donald Trump's administration in its waning days. The agreement is among several the outgoing government signed with numerous states, saying they were entitled to to a 180-day consultation period before any executive branch policy changes take effect.
