This week we salute Cynthia Perry an LPN at Bishop Rehab and Nursing Home in Syracuse.
The COVID protocols and guidelines at New York nursing homes may have eased a bit over the last few months, but it hasn't slowed down Cynthia's compassion and service to the people in her care. Her daughter, Aaryel Termini, nominated her for our weekly salute saying Mom arrives to work two hours early everyday ensuring her patients have their needed comforts even something as simple as a glass of ice-water or placing a phone call to family members.

The City of Alexandria will not host a fireworks display on July 4 this year after members of the Alexandria City Council voted the measure down Tuesday night, states a press release issued by the city.
The request failed 4-3 with council members Reddex Washington, Gerber Porter, Cynthia Perry and Catherine Davidson voting against the fireworks display slated for Sunday, July 4 in downtown Alexandria. Voting for the fireworks display were Council President Jim Villard, Chuck Fowler and Lee Rubin.
“We are disappointed with the vote, but we encourage residents to celebrate our nation with our neighboring cities and at home this year,” quoted Mayor Jeff Hall in the release. Hall had requested the measure.

After Backlash, Salesforce Increases Minority Hires With a Focus on Black Women
After public condemnation for its treatment of non-White employees, Salesforce is trying to do better.
Salesforce shared new employee diversity statistics data as of April 2021, pointing out that in April 2020, there were 4.0% Black, 5.0% Latinx and 12.7% total underrepresented minorities hired. April 2021’s numbers rose to 8.1% Black, 6.8% Latinx and 18.8% total under-represented minorities who were hired by the cloud computing leader.
Another initiative entailed “designing a company-wide strategy focused on the Black Women experience to accelerate representation, create access, address microaggressions, and develop Black leaders,” according to Salesforce.
“Building a company-wide training in partnership with a Black-owned vendor that will address microaggressions impacting underrepresented communities in our workplace. The training will enable leaders to interrupt bias and microaggressions in key talent processes and help employees recognize their role in these day to day moments,” Salesforce said in the company’s blog.

The Alexandria City Council voted 5-2 to again adopt the amended 2021-22 budget, overturning the mayor's veto and perhaps setting up a showdown in court.

Citing city charter, Alexandria Mayor Jeff Hall vetoes budget

One week after the Alexandria City Council passed an amended budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year, Mayor Jeff Hall on Tuesday vetoed it, saying it violated the city charter.
That means some projects and raises for employees, police officers and firefighters will be delayed. The city's fiscal year begins on May 1.
In a release, Hall said he wouldn't be "bullied into undermining the foundation of our community."
At its April 20 meeting, the council approved by a 4-3 vote an amendment from District 4 Councilwoman Catherine Davidson to move a budget surplus from the police department from the old fiscal year into the new budget.

Tourism Cares has expanded its board of directors, and board committees, to include “more representation across travel segments.”
“Tourism Cares is dedicated to the long-term survival of the travel industry, by advancing its positive social, environmental and economic impact,” said Greg Takehara, CEO of Tourism Cares. “To achieve this, we need to collaborate to enact lasting change in the way we do business for the people and places we serve.”
The expanded Tourism Cares board of twenty-one will add to the expertise and leadership representing the breadth of the travel industry.
Appointed board members include: Bryan Kinkade, VP Publisher, AFAR; Kathy Misunas, former CEO Sabre and CIO/SVP, American Airlines; Shannon Stowell, CEO, The Adventure Travel Trade Association; and Shayna Zand, Head of Business Development – Americas, Intrepid Group.

Saleforce's LinkedIn hacked to show BLM support after employees speak out - TheGrio

A hacker breached the LinkedIn account of the software giant Salesforce during the CPAC conference last Friday, posting a supportive message about Black Lives Matter from the page.
“Hey everybody, we just want you to know what while CPAC is going on, BLACK LIVES STILL F—–G MATTER. PEACE,” the post read. It was shared from the software company’s official account, which has more than 2 million followers.
