LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Advocates against mass incarceration said they have bailed three Black mothers out of a Los Angeles detention facility as part of a day of action that included a statewide petition with racial justice organization Color of Change.
Essie Justice Group said Saturday the campaign was calling on California judges to ``stop abusing their discretion to disproportionately keep Black people in jail on astronomically high bail amounts.
That charge involves some judges alleged attempts to circumvent a recent California Supreme Court decision that judges must consider ability to pay when setting bail. ....

NYPD officer accused of abuse in no-knock raid cleared by agency
Isaac Okoli claimed police planted drugs during the incident and has filed a lawsuit against the city and the NYPD
officer has been cleared of abuse claims after a no-knock raid went wrong.
Lawrence Avvenire was cleared of wrongdoing by the
Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) after he was accused of abusing his authority in the December 2017 raid. According to the report, the NYPD did not share with the CCRB the botched no-knock raid targeted the wrong apartment due to a clerical paperwork error.
Okoli, now 63-years-old, said the police planted cocaine and arrested him during the raid although he and his family believed it was obvious to law enforcement they were at the wrong address. The criminal charges against Okoli were dropped before he saw a judge. The family has filed a lawsuit against New York City ....
