As the country pushes to get more people vaccinated, researchers are now looking at mixing and matching different COVID vaccines as a booster for fully vaccinated people.
“We call it mix and match because we’re looking at people who got any of the three EUA authorized vaccines: the Pfizer, the Moderna, or the Janssen vaccine,” said Dr. Robert Atmar, one of the trial’s principal investigators. “At least in the current part of the study, we’re boosting each of those three groups with the Moderna vaccine.”

TAMPA, Fla. — The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed once again after a brief pause over concerns of severe blood clots. People in the Tampa Bay area are already rolling up their sleeves for this vaccine, while local doctors explain what you need to know about the J&J shot.
Both Laurie and Leland Massee got their J&J dose at the Tampa Greyhound Track vaccination site Monday.
“You don’t have to come back for the second shot, and it’s supposed to do the same thing, so why not?” said Laurie.

The CDC says the UK variant has become the most dominant COVID strain in the United States. That strain, B.1.1.7, is also widely circulating in Florida.
"Based on our most recent estimates from CDC surveillance, the B.1.1.7 variant is now the most common lineage circulating in the United States," CDC director Rochelle Walensky said last week.

Nevada's COVID-19 vaccine eligibility expands, decision to get vaccine mixed

Brock is ready to get her teens vaccinated against COVID-19, but her concern will be timing.
“As a mom of four and a parent to teens, they have busy schedules, they have school, we’re looking for convenience,” says Brock. “Everything always runs behind, it’s a few hours time to commit for one child at a time.”
Despite the concern, Brock is ready to get her family protected as soon as possible.
For other parents, they’re choosing to hold off for now.
“There’s not enough information out there to see how it would impact the kids in the long term,” says Lorena Llamas.

TAMPA, Fla. — With the Johnson & Johnson vaccine getting the green light, the United States has another tool in the fight against COVID-19. As more people start to get vaccinated, Tampa Bay area health experts are giving you a glimpse of what you could expect after you are fully vaccinated.
“It leaves you with another layer of protection against the virus, but again, this is not 100 percent protection against the virus either,” said USF Health associate professor Dr. Michael Teng. “You can still get infected.”

TAMPA, Fla. — As COVID-19 vaccination pace picks up among adults, many parents are left wondering “when will we know if it’s safe for children to get vaccinated, and do they actually need to be?”
They’re good questions, especially since we know kids don’t typically get as sick with the virus. But two local doctors warn, there are still plenty of reasons for children to get vaccinated, once a vaccine is deemed safe.
