A popular Catholic priest in Chicago known for his social justice activism has stepped down after an investigation into alleged sexual abuse has been launched against him.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond and leaders for the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests met face-to-face recently to discuss a path forward amid allegations of church sex abuse.
For the past 18 months, the Archdiocese of New Orleans and SNAP leadership have appeared at odds over how the archdiocese has handled claims of abuse by clergy.
The Archdiocese of New Orleans released a statement Wednesday:
“In recent weeks, it has become obvious to us that though we may have different ideas and methods, we have common goals: healing for victims, their families and prevention of abuse. There is plenty that divides this country, but I thought there was one thing that would always unite us: trust in, and acceptance of, our free and fair elections.
On that issue there is, in fact, unity throughout the country extending from frontline election workers to local and state officials charged with supervising elections, both Democrats and Republicans  even to the U.S. Attorney General. This restores some faith that we will be alright. In the face of this unity, I was extremely disappointed that my retiring congressman, Bill Flores, and a number of his Texas colleagues have chosen to give credence to baseless claims that undermine the validity of the most recent election. ....
