Twelve aged care consumer peaks propose aged care reform plan
Twelve leading aged care consumer organisations, led by the Council on the Ageing (COTA) Australia, have issued a detailed joint response to the Final Report of the Aged Care Royal Commission, identifying the key reforms the Federal Government must implement in the upcoming Federal Budget to ensure its response to the Royal Commission gets off to a flying start.
In their joint statement the consumer organisations set out the package of urgent reforms the Morrison government must deliver in the next 12-18 months to build a high quality aged care system that’s grounded in human rights and which treats older people with respect for their diversity and capacities, ensures greater control over their care and support, and delivers appropriate, safe and timely services, and fair value for their dollar.

Bus stop idea referred to committees
Councillor Tom Kennedy requested that a new bus stop named after Roz, Barb, and Pat Gauci be built on the corner of Gypsum and Newton Streets, and a plaque be installed recognising them. The motion was not supported as the corner is not a designated bus stop according to Transport NSW, however an amendment was passed referring the matter to Council’s Asset Naming Committee and Traffic Committee for further investigation.
Report on community garden
Councillor Kennedy asked that a report be prepared on the possibility of converting the old Alma Pool site into a community garden. The motion was passed.

Research Reveals New Link In Australasian and South American Ancestry

)
In fact, it is this same Y signal that has now been detected in the Chotuna, the Guaraní Kaiowá, and the Xavánte. So the new study confirms the 2015 study, but it also expands on it in important ways.
Our results showed that the Australasian genetic signal, previously described as exclusive to  Amazonian groups, was also identified in the Pacific coastal population, pointing to a more widespread signal distribution within South America, and possibly implicating an ancient contact between Pacific and Amazonian dwellers,   the researchers wrote  in an article appearing in the most recent edition of
PNAS.

Rock art of human figures created over thousands of years in Arnhem Land has been put through a transformative machine learning study to analyse style changes over the years.
The study – just published in Australian Archaeology – has tested different styles labelled ‘Northern Running figures’, ‘Dynamic figures’, ‘Post Dynamic figures’ and ‘Simple figures with Boomerangs’ to understand how these styles relate to one another.

SAINT BONIFACE, MB, April 1, 2021 /CNW Telbec/ - Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada
The health and safety of Canadians and the protection of our environment are priorities for the Government of Canada.
Today, the Minister of Northern Affairs, the Honourable Daniel Vandal, marked the one-year anniversary of the Northern Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program, recognizing the progress made with Indigenous, territorial, and community partners to advance long-term clean-up plans for contaminated sites in the North.
The Northern Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program is responsible for the remediation of the eight largest abandoned mine projects in Yukon and the Northwest Territories. While these eight projects have largely been in care, maintenance and remediation planning for several years, a number of projects have achieved important milestones since the Program s launch.

Lawyers call for investigation over NSW Police's "callous" arrest of Aboriginal teen - Hack

Lawyers are calling for the Director of Public Prosecutions to investigate the behaviour of NSW Police officers who arrested an Aboriginal teenager last week, while she was having an anxiety attack. She was later released without charge.
The women did nothing wrong and in our opinion the officers conduct should be reviewed to determine whether a crime has been committed, said prominent lawyer George Newhouse, at the National Justice Project, commenting on the footage.
It s hard to believe that police could behave so callously in the midst of what was really a medical crisis.
There s potential for criminal proceedings to be brought if a complaint is made about the conduct of the police and the use of force was unreasonable, he told Hack.
