Jackoboice's Go-Ahead Goal Sends Notre Dame to Quarterfinals Past Drexel, 10-8

Notre Dame survived. And advanced.
For Notre Dame, the No. 6 seed sent to Denver in the first round hosting the Quarterfinals at Arlotta Stadium,  it was Wheaton Jackoboice who scored the goal-ahead goal with 1:19 remaining, and Morrison Mirer iced it late in a 10-8 win over Drexel on Saturday.
Jackoboice led Irish scorers with three goals, Mirer and Pat Kavanagh both scored twice, and Will Yorke added a goal and an assist. The Dragons’ Reid Bowering led all scorers with four goals, while Jack Mulcahy and Sean Donnelly both had a goal and an assist.
The Irish advance to play the winner of Sunday’s matchup between No. 3-seed Maryland vs. Vermont in College Park, Md. Drexel, the CAA champions, end their season 10-3.

Dancing With Fire Breath: Drexel Dominates First Half to Clinch CAA Crown

The Dragons are going dancing with fire breath.
Drexel earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with its ninth straight win, a decisive 15-11 CAA Championship victory at Hofstra on Saturday — its first conference title since 2014 and second overall.
“It feels really good. We had a bit of a delay to start the season and then you don’t even know if you’ll get the thing done, but the kids worked really hard,” Drexel coach Brian Voelker said postgame. “Started off slow, had a couple tough games early in the year, and ever since then guys have played really well.”

Our Picks: Who's Winning the Men's DI Conference Tournaments?

Eight automatic qualifiers are up for grabs over the next week.
With the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Tuesday night, there's no reason to turn away from your laptop or TV for the next six days with the amount of action on — much of it staggered across the day so you'll be able to see most finishes.
Here are our picks for conference champions — a piece that's routinely become bulletin-board fodder on Championship Saturday.
America East
Terry Foy: UMBC
I’m picking the Retrievers because of a combination of home-field advantage, conference tournament experience, close game experience and the idea that defense wins in May (which, in the shot clock era, I’m not even certain is true any longer).

Quint's Top 20: Spring Splendor

We were treated to a smorgasbord of television games, rivalry games and contests that had league-standing significance.
The ACC Thursday Night Thriller remains undefeated. Navy earned the Star in front of 5,000 fans in Annapolis. UMBC keeps winning overtime games. Otto bounced back in Charlottesville. The Drexel Dragons and Saint Joe’s Hawks have momentum in late April.
For some, this week is the last of the regular season. For others it's the chance to play for a conference automatic qualifier where every game has 'Game 7’ intensity and ramifications. Right now, there are roughly 45 teams in the hunt for the NCAA Tournament.

Men's DI Roundup: Carolina Topples Irish, Villanova Rolls, Saint Joe's Wins NEC Regular Season

No. 13 Delaware cruised against Towson, 16-8, a surprisingly decisive victory in a CAA that’s recently been defined by close slugfests.
The Blue Hens’ (9-2, 6-1 CAA) 16 goals against the Tigers (6-7, 3-4 CAA) were the most in the series against Towson since April 10, 1999.
Cam Acchione scored five goals on five shots, Mike Robinson had a hat trick on four shots, and Charlie Kitchen (2G, 4A) and Tye Kurtz (2G, 3A) combined for seven assists.
Matt Kilkeary tied a career-high with 13 saves.
Delaware started with a 4-1 run, then broke the game open by holding Towson scoreless for the entire second quarter and going on a 5-0 run in the third.

With Drexel riding high on a four-game winning streak and having avenged both their losses, coach Brian Voelker brought his team together after a slow start to practice Wednesday and asked senior attackman Aidan Coll to stand up and speak to the team.
Coll, the CAA Player of the Week after scoring five goals in Drexel’s 12-10 win at then-No. 12 Delaware on Saturday, didn’t play much his first two years before breaking through with 10 goals in six games as a junior in 2020. Voelker asked Coll to address his younger teammates about why he’s playing now as the team’s crease attackman.

Quint's Top 20: Our Time is Now

As the NCAA winter sports seasons wrap up, lacrosse has the opportunity to step into the limelight. What’s happened is less important than what’s next.
Monmouth and Bryant are the current favorites to win their league titles, but the margin of success and failure are extremely tight in 2021. LIU (4-1 NEC) and Saint Joseph’s (5-0 NEC) still have to play the Bulldogs (3-1) in the NEC. Monmouth is scheduled to play Marist on Tuesday, but that game remains in doubt due to Marist’s ongoing pause. Jacksonville is 4-0 in the SoCon but has not played High Point or Richmond yet. Stay in the hunt. Make the next game the most important one of the season. This is when the fun begins.
