HPE: ‘No Evidence’ It Has Been ‘Impacted’ By SolarWinds-Based Attack
‘At this point we have no evidence to suggest that HPE has been impacted by this campaign or that any HPE or customer data has been exposed,’ says an HPE spokesperson in an email to CRN. ‘We are treating the issue seriously and taking proactive steps recommended by SolarWinds to mitigate any known risk to HPE or our customers.’

The United States (US) approved its second COVID-19 vaccine by Moderna this week, ramping up its initial vaccine distribution and inoculations in America.  Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) decided to expedite its vaccine approval process and is now on track to authorize the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines before the end of the month.
Talks between the United Kingdom (UK) and EU continued this past week.  While some progress was noted, a significant breakthrough remains elusive.  If a deal is reached in the coming days, accelerated ratification by both the European Parliament and the UK Parliament will be necessary before the UK’s formal exit from the customs union and single market on 31 December. ....

A decade ago, the world was caught off guard when news broke out that a computer virus had infected industrial sites in Iran. Named Stuxnet, the virus spread when a worker inserted an infected USB drive into his computer. One of the affected industrial sites was a nuclear plant in Iran.
Iran, according to security firm Symantec, bore the brunt of the virus with nearly 59% of the attacks directed at it. India, too, was impacted with 8.31% hits.
In October 2011, another worm called W32.Duqu was created from the same code base as Stuxnet that was primarily designed to sabotage industrial machinery. Duqu, on the other hand, was geared for information theft, specifically information related to industrial systems and other secrets. ....

The fallout from a major hacking campaign, believed to be conducted by Russia, continues to grow. In a blog post, Microsoft said that it was one of the numerous organizations that were using malware-infected software from SolarWinds. The company said that its IT management software was infected with malware, which allowed hackers to gain access to the computer systems of over 18,000 organizations around the world, including several U.S. government agencies.
Microsoft said it removed the malware from its systems and has identified more than 40 customers using its Defender Anti-Virus software that were infected with the malware. The company said it expects the number of victims to grow as it continues to investigate the massive hack. ....
