Saskatoon buffet owner adapts to post-COVID-19 landscape

SASKATOON --
Phil Nelson has owned Smiley’s Buffet and Catering for 25 years and knows how much Saskatoon customers appreciate an all-you-can-eat buffet experience.
“It’s a meat and potatoes community so they can see what they want to eat and they can pick and choose what they want,” Nelson told CTV News.
He opened his buffet service on July 11 after more than a year of not offering self serve.
Nelson worried about the fate of his business at the start of the pandemic, but quickly adapted and decided to offer cafeteria style service in place of the self serve lines.

Sam Thompson and Natasha ”Tash” Ruscheinski, emerged as surprised winners of Saturday’s KPMG Tortola Torture FU Covid edition. Thompson, the top individual finisher of 15 males who started, covered the 54Km (33.4 miles) race in 6 hours, 11 minutes and 37 seconds.
“What? No way,” was Ruscheinski’s response, when told on Brewers Bay Hill that she was leading the Women’s field of seven during the grueling race in the heat and humidity, as she went on to win in 7:07.49.

Ventura sidewalk repair program: Residents who help get reimbursed

Ventura officials have started a new program to help residents pay for sidewalk repairs they want to be done ahead of the city's schedule.
The Safe Sidewalks Program reimburses half the repair costs — up to $2,500 — on sidewalks fronting a resident's property, city officials said in a news release Monday.
Some residents can receive a 75% match, up to $3,750, if they meet California Alternate Rates for Energy income qualifications.
"Our goal is to provide a pathway for residents to fast-track their sidewalk repairs to improve accessibility and safety for everyone,” said Phil Nelson, the city's public works director.
Residents must apply for the program by March 31, 2022. The city must approve the repair job and the contractor before the work begins. Work must be completed by June 30, 2022, and pass city inspection before receiving reimbursement.

Ventura offers new sidewalk repair reimbursement program for residents

Ventura offers new sidewalk repair reimbursement program for residents
VENTURA, Calif. - The City of Ventura will soon be implementing a new reimbursement program, called the Safe Sidewalks Program, to help repair sidewalks at a faster rate throughout the city.
This program is funded by Measure O and will pay for a portion of sidewalk repair costs when individual improvements are made by residents after submitting an application.
The Safe Sidewalks Program reimburses 50% of the costs, or up to $2,500 per resident property frontage. However, income-qualified residents may receive a match of 75% of repair costs, or up to $3,750 per property frontage.
