too far as a progressive prosecutor amid surging violent crime. The primary, which essentially determines November’s victors in both one-party cities, is “really a test of where Democratic voters are right now,” said Christopher Borick, director of Muhlenberg College’s Institute of Public Opinion. ....

Today’s topic is political overreach.
It’s not new. It’s almost always with us. It’s often used when elected leaders perceive mandates that aren’t there. Or when majority lawmakers seek revenge. Or when one party wants something badly enough to risk repercussions.
It can be annoying. And distracting. And show up anywhere. In voting rights, LGBTQ issues, reproductive rights, in a Green New Deal or “defund the police.”
Let’s look at examples in Harrisburg and Washington.

Efforts to reform Pennsylvania’s child sex crimes law have long been a moving target.
For years, victims of child sexual abuse and their advocates have been pushing legislation but have come up short.
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed a bill to give some child sex abuse victims a two-year period to file claims in civil court, which would help those who were assaulted years ago and have long passed the deadline to seek legal action. The bill now moves on to the Senate. ....
