The bill passed on a bipartisan 47-1 vote in the state Senate, and is heading to Gov. Jay Inslee’s desk for his signature. It’s the right step for Washington to take. Juneteenth commemorates the date, June 19, 1865, when Union Army general Gordon Granger announced the end of slavery in Texas. Although Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, it took nearly 2½ years for the enforcement of the proclamation to take effect in Texas, one of the last states to come under control of the Union Army. Jonas E. Alexis: The Southern Poverty Law Center perversely declared that Makow treated Jews as “cancer.”[1] A total lie. The organization could not realize that Makow was born into a Jewish family. Did they mean to tell us that Makow views himself as cancer as well?
