Nurse bids farewell after 15 years
After 15 years of benefiting from her health projects and reliable warmth and care, Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) must bid farewell to school nurse Linda Leonard, who will retire at the end of the school year.
Ms. Leonard has enjoyed working with students. “Fifteen years ago I got the job of my lifetime: working with teenagers. I love it, I think kids listen to nurses,” said Ms. Leonard. “School nurses aren’t here for just Band-Aids. I’ve already sent two people to the Emergency Room [today],” she said.

In April 2018, Sorrells pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud and admitted to receiving more than $3 million in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for entering into contracts for $70 million in school bus camera equipment. He's expected to be sentenced in August.
Larry Duncan, former president of the DCS Board and a former Dallas City Council member. He stepped down from his position as president of board for Dallas County Schools on May 17, 2017 amid ongoing investigations into a multi-million budget gap, the agency's controversial stop-arm camera program and a sale-leaseback land deal that will cost taxpayers millions.

Finding Our Voices receives $50,000 grant

Finding Our Voices, the Camden-based, grassroots non-profit organization marshaling survivor voices and faces to break the silence of domestic abuse, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Sunshine Lady Foundation.

Carolyn D. Leonard, 68, of Brownwood

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday February 6, 2021 at 11 am at Greenleaf Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday February 5, 2021 at Brownwood Funeral Home from 5-8 pm.
Carolyn D. Leonard was born on July 19, 1952 to the union of the late Booker T. Leonard Sr. and Josie M. Evans – Leonard of Quitman Clay, Louisiana.
Carolyn attended L.G. Pinkston High School in Dallas, Texas and graduated in 1970.
She met her best friend Kester L. Barrie (d. 2018) whom she loved dearly and between the two, God blessed them with a baby girl. (Caroll R. Leonard)
Carolyn accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and attended, Greater Faith Community Church. Then under the leadership of Bishop Aaron C. Blake, now with Senior Pastor Charles Lowe. For over 35 years, Carolyn was a faithful member, dedicated to fellowship and passionate about serving with her love for cooking. She cooked for the women’s ministry, church anniversaries and every conference that was held at the church. She even adored cooking for the smallest precious souls of the church, at the Small World Daycare Center.
