Dak Prescott's comeback tale from last year's season-ending ankle injury suffered its first scare on Wednesday.
Prescott left practice early on Wednesday after experiencing soreness in his right arm and an MRI showed that he has a muscle strain in his right shoulder, the team announced in a statement.
"I felt some soreness when making certain throws today, and I really just decided not to push things too far," Prescott said in a statement, obtained by NFL Network's Jane Slater. "Better to be cautious and smart about it. I don't see this as any kind of serious setback. We'll treat it on a daily basis, and I'll be fine."

This was inevitable after the drafting of two linebackers.
The Dallas Cowboys won’t be picking up the fifth-year contract option of former first round pick Leighton Vander Esch. His agent, Ron Slavin, told ESPN of the team’s plans Monday which would allow the linebacker to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2021 season.
Vander Esch has missed 13 games due to injury over the past two seasons and that history is likely the main reason for the decision. In 2019, Vander Esch suffered a neck injury that required surgery and in 2020 he broke his collarbone causing him to miss six games. His best season came in his rookie year when he totaled 140 tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defensed after being selected with the 19th overall pick in that year’s first round.

The Dallas Cowboys declined to pick up the fifth-year option for former first-round linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.
NFL Network's Jane Slater reported that the Cowboys informed Vander Esch's agent that they would not be exercising the option on the linebacker due to ongoing salary cap uncertainty.
Slater added that Dallas hopes to sign LVE to a contract extension before his current deal expires in 2022.
The fifth-year option on the linebacker would have cost the Cowboys $9.145 million.
Declining the option wasn't a surprise, particularly after the Cowboys used a first-round pick on linebacker Micah Parsons. The Cowboys also spent a fourth-round selection on linebacker Jabril Cox, who was viewed as a value selection by Dallas after the LSU LB was projected to go on Day 2 of the draft.
