In 1919, the Boston Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees for an unheard of $100,000, a sum worth nearly $1.5 million today. Sports fans credit the deal for an ensuing New York dynasty of pennants and championships and for Boston’s World Series drought, known by some as the “curse of the Bambino.”

A partner in a firm formed by former lawyers at Boies Schiller Flexner refused to leave after he was ousted for abusive behavior in a partnership vote, according to a lawsuit filed Saturday.
The Feb. 27 lawsuit by law firm Roche Cyrulnik Freedman says partner Jason Cyrulnik was ousted for “abusive, destructive, erratic and obstructive behavior.”
Cyrulnik’s abusive behavior included screaming at partners and attempting to assume control over management decisions, the lawsuit alleges.
“Rather than accept payment for his work and focus on ensuring a smooth transition,” the lawsuit says, “this expelled partner now refuses to leave, attempting to shake down his former firm for millions of dollars he did not earn and to which he is not entitled.” ....

Voting machine company sues Fox News, lawyers
Voting machine company Smartmatic filed a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit Thursday against Fox News, three of its TV personalities, and lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell. The suit claims that the defendants made Smartmatic the villain in a disinformation campaign claiming that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. Another voting machine company, Dominion Voting Systems, has also sued Giuliani and Powell for claiming that its machines switched votes. Powell called the latest suit “just another political maneuver motivated by the radical left that has no basis in fact or law.” (CNN, the New York Times) ....

A former nonequity partner at Reed Smith has alleged in a lawsuit that her male colleagues treated her unfairly, and the law firm allowed it to happen.
Sherri Affrunti filed the pay and gender bias lawsuit in New Jersey state court in Mercer County on Dec. 18, Law.com reports.
According to the suit, Reed Smith allowed Affrunti’s male peers to “obstruct rather than to enhance her productivity; improperly take credit for her work and originations; direct business away from her; and ostracize her rather than collaborate with her.” ....
