Kennewick Seeks Feedback on Proposed Horse Heaven Hills Wind Farm
Christopher Furlong
Scout Clean Energy is hoping to get a 'green light' in their quest to erect about 250 wind turbines and a solar component to go with it about four miles south of the Tri-Cities that basically extends from the Columbia River to just south of Benton City along the Horse Heaven Hills.

Gas turbines will enable shutdown of Drake Power Plant

Colorado Springs Utilities’ purchase of six natural gas-powered turbines signal the beginning of the end for the Martin Drake Power Plant.
The utility is investing $100 million in the turbines, which will take over power generation as CSU moves to decommission the coal-fired plant until a transmission line is built to serve Downtown Colorado Springs.
General Electric, the manufacturer of the turbines, stated in a news release that the units will be the first of their kind to be installed in North America.
Besides helping CSU power down coal generation at the Drake plant, the highly mobile turbines will also serve CSU and its customers after Drake’s closure as the utility brings more renewable energy sources onto the system.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Says Texans on Variable-Rate Energy Plans 'Gambled'

In a Feb. 24 FOX appearance, Patrick explained that Texas residents can choose their own energy plan. Those stuck with high bills opted for a low-rate variable plan instead of one that’s fixed.
“The people who are getting those big bills are people who gambled on a very, very low rate and it would go up with the power,” Patrick said. “But I’ve told those folks: Do not panic. We are going to figure that out.
“But going forward, people need to read fine print in those kinds of bills and we may even end that type of variable plan because people were surprised,” he continued.

How Siemens Energy Is Targeting the US Green Hydrogen Opportunity

Green hydrogen is both an untested and a potentially vital way for renewable-energy-powered grids to store their intermittent power for later use, not just for hours at a time, but for days, weeks or even seasons ahead. Most of the early-stage work on hydrogen’s grid storage potential is happening in Europe and Asia, but the U.S. does have a few projects taking steps toward proving out the concept.
Take the Intermountain Power Project, the coal-fired power plant in Utah converting to turbines that will use natural gas blended with 30 percent hydrogen, a proportion that will rise to 100 percent hydrogen over the coming decades. That 840 megawatts of generation capacity, serving customers including California’s Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, could become a source of increasingly low-carbon energy fueled by hydrogen stored in massive underground caverns — if the systems to use renewable energy to convert water to hydrogen via electrolysis and store it for later use can combine in a cost-effective way.
