Filming starts on new series of ITV drama Sanditon featuring Brean beach Filming has started on a new series of ITV costume drama Sanditon, with several scenes set to be filmed at Brean over the coming months. Sanditon was cancelled by ITV back in 2019 but an exhaustive fan campaign to save the show has secured another two seasons, which will be co-produced by BritBox UK and PBS Masterpiece. “Fans who are craving romance and escape will find them in abundance in the new season of Sanditon, with its intriguing characters and captivating storylines,” says executive producer Susanne Simpson. “Our partners at Red Planet Pictures have done a brilliant job capturing the magic that won viewers’ hearts in season one.”

The eight-part ITV series, based on Austen’s final, unfinished novel, aired on PBS in early 2020. ITV chose not to continue the series, which had ended its debut season with a romantic cliffhanger. To resurrect the series, PBS’ Boston-based Masterpiece partnered with BritBox UK, which will show the new seasons in England. “We are absolutely delighted to announce a second and third season of ‘Sanditon,’ a show that has inspired such a passionate and devoted fan base,” executive producer Susanne Simpson said in a statement on Thursday. “Audiences can expect romance, humor and plenty of twists and turns in these new seasons of ‘Sanditon’.”

BBC Studios and ITV Studios joint-venture BritBox has the rights to premiere the show, based on an unfinished manuscript by Jane Austen, in the UK. Season two and three will also air on UK broadcaster ITV, which originally commissioned the series jointly with PBS and aired it in 2019. Justin Young has joined as an executive producer having written four episodes of season one, while the show’s creator, Andrew Davies, is returning as an exec producer. The other exec producers are Belinda Campbell for Red Planet Pictures, Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece and Chloe Tucker for ITV and BritBox.
