The WBO super bantamweight world champion was bombarded with numerous questions pertaining to the showdown between WBC titlist Luis Nery and WBA ‘Regular’ champion Brandon Figueroa. Although the betting public leaned heavily towards Nery, Fulton went against the grain and sided with Figueroa. After seven rounds of back and fourth action last night at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, Fulton (19-0, 8 KOs) was proven to be right as Figueroa pulled off the upset win, stopping his man in the seventh with a shot to the midsection. While many were surprised with the end result, Fulton simply shrugged his shoulders as he wasn’t surprised.
CARSON CITY, CA - Weslaco's own Brandon Figueroa collected another title belt for his trophy case on Saturday night with a 7th round KO victory over previously unbeaten Luis Nery on Showtime Boxing to win the WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship.

Photo Credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME Brandon Figueroa added the WBC Super Bantamweight title to his WBA (Regular) belt, as he knocked out Luis Nery in seven rounds in a toe-to-toe war in Carson, California. The pair came into the clash unbeaten in a combined 53 fights, and Nery walked in as a two-weight world champion, having previously reigned at Super Bantamweight, while WBA title holder Figueroa was making the third defence of his belt. Nery began with menace, setting his stall out by using his jab effectively and also nailing Figueroa with a left hand that momentarily stunned the WBA champion in round one.
