One of the early so-called “supergroups” of the late ‘60s, Humble Pie formed in 1969 and released
Smokin’ in 1972 – the band’s fifth studio album, as well as Humble Pie’s highest-charting album.
Coming out of the starting gate in 1969, Humble Pie was made up of Steve Marriott (guitar, vocals, keyboards, harmonica), Jerry Shirley (drums) Greg Ridley (bass), and Peter Frampton (guitar, vocals, keyboards).

Humble Pie’s advent was the result of Marriott’s friendship with Peter Frampton, who had left The Herd and was looking for a new gig. Marriott, the guitarist for the Small Faces, wanted to bring Frampton into the Small Faces, but both bassist Ronnie Lane and keyboardist Ian McLagan dissented. For whatever reason, they didn’t want Frampton in Small Faces.

INTERVIEW/MUSIC

Pressenza interviewed Chris Wells, one of the singer-songwriters and producer, featured in the album, Songs for Sala, released and available on bandcamp: https://salasongs.bandcamp.com/releases
Chris Wells is a songwriter, actor, teacher and Siloist based in New York City.
Karina L. Santillan: Could you tell us a bit more about yourself? As a teacher, musician and Siloist living in New York?
Chris Wells: I live in NY with my wife Julie. We met in the early 90s when we were participating in neighborhood projects as part of the Humanist Movement, an all-volunteer international movement launched by Silo working for deep social and personal change through the methodology of active non-violence. I have two children. My son is 23 and my daughter is 20. I was a professional actor for many years and I teach acting at a wonderful artistic community and professional school in NYC called The Barrow Group. I’ve been writing music and songs off and on since my 20s, for the last 2-3 years more consistently. I participated in the Humanist Movement for about 20 years and was the spokesperson for North America before and during the World March for Peace and Nonviolence. More recently, I have participated in the community of Silo’s Message, a loosely organized community of friends engaged in spiritual search.

1959 - As the snow melts in Mason City, Iowa, Buddy Holly's glasses are found from the plane crash that killed him two months earlier. They are turned in to police, where they stay until 1980, when a sheriff finds them and returns them to Holly's widow.
1969 - John and Yoko recorded "Give Peace A Chance" in their Toronto hotel room during one of their bed-ins for peace.
1978 - The Police released 'Roxanne' as the first single from their debut album Outlandos d'Amour. The song was written from the point of view of a man who falls in love with a prostitute. The title came from the name of the character in the play Cyrano de Bergerac, which Sting saw on an old poster which was hanging in a hotel foyer in Paris, France where the group had been staying.

Isley Brothers vs. Earth, Wind & Fire: Verzuz Scorecard

Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers performs onstage during the Summertime in the LBC music festival on July 7, 2018 in Long Beach, Calif.
With entire generations' worth of hits between them, a pair of ageless soul-funk outfits shared the Verzuz stage on Sunday night (Apr. 4), in a battle and mutual celebration of their respective catalogues of classics.
Sunday's matchup between The Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind & Fire was matched in Verzuz history perhaps only by the September lovefest between Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight in terms of decade-spanning ranges of smashes -- with Earth, Wind & Fire's hitmaking career dating back to the early '70s, and the Isleys dating all the way back to the late '50s for their "Shout" breakthrough. Listening through their dozens of gems alongside one another was almost like a tour through funk, soul, pop and rock history, with countless trends both reflected and forecasted by the hits played.
