UCSB requiring masks in shared indoor spaces

UCSB
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara announced a new mask mandate Tuesday, which requires all students, faculty, staff and visitors to wear a mask in shared indoor spaces on campus.
The mask mandate takes effect immediately, according to a message from UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang.
"The mandate is based on extensive analyses and discussion by our campus medical experts and COVID-19 Response Working Group. We also note that other UC campuses are instituting similar masking requirements," Yang wrote.
The university's mask mandate follows last week's recommendation from the state and Santa Barbara County Public Health officials recommending everyone wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

Santa Barbara County Issuing Mask Mandate for Indoor, Public Areas This Week

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department plans to issue a new health officer order on Wednesday mandating universal masking indoors for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, as the spread of the Delta variant causes an uptick in COVID-19 cases across the county.
The health order will go into effect on Friday.
Public Health does not plan to send out additional information about the order until it is finalized and posted, but Santa Barbara County’s RISE program alerted members of the business community on Tuesday, including the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce, before any notice was given to the general public.

Trader joins Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong, leaves two weeks later

by
David Rothnie
Demand for credit traders in Hong Kong is red-hot. Just ask Henry Yang, a high-yield credit trader who has swapped employers twice in the last fourth months.
Yang quit Chinese securities firm Guotai Junan International on October 16 last year to join Deutsche Bank where he started work on January 18.  But by the beginning of February, he had resigned to join HSBC as a high-yield credit trader, according to two sources.
Yang’s speedy career progression is symptomatic of what’s happening in Hong Kong at the moment. A boom in high yield credit is leading banks to hire experienced traders. Chinese firms have traditionally been unable to compete with western banks when it comes to compensation, so they are losing staff.

Rec Cen Lifeguards Upset They Might Actually Have To Do Something Now

May 17, 2021 at 4:20 am by Robert Gutierrez
Gym rats across Isla vista rejoiced earlier t
his quarter as the Recreation Center reopened; the lifeguards, however, aren’t so happy. After spending nearly a year and a half doing nothing, the lifeguards of UCSB are positively perturbed at the prospect of having to continue to do nothing, but in a more professional capacity.
“Yea it’s pretty annoying, to be honest. I was really liking how we were doing things during the pandemic,” the Rec Cen’s lead lifeguard stated. “Once we realized we were in it for the long haul, we had IT set up web cameras on the lifeguard towers so we could watch the pool remotely.” To date, no lifeguard has reported anything happening on these remote sessions, with the exception of one catching Chancellor Henry Yang skinny dipping in the moonlight.
