country is engrained in the french way of thinking. it's engrained in the government. so how is that likely to change? will these numbers force the french to change the way they think? >> reporter: well, i think one -- there's a number of different issues wrapped up in this. i mean, one of the things i think you'll see over the next year, it's already begun, in fact, is that there's going to be more public money going into things like islamic schools. there already are jewish schools and catholic schools, of course, that receive some public funding. but there's going to be more construction of schools for muslims in france. there's going to be, i think, and also more construction of mosques that will be authorized. so i think that will be reflection of this growing trend. one of the things that i think a lot of people, a lot of french talked about here, that needs to be improved, and that's integration of the islamic communities here. it should be remembered that, in effect, a lot of the muslims in
