collided with a helicopter in bucks. one of those killed has been named as mike green, a helicopter instructor. and tributes for the co—founder of the australian rock group ac/dc, malcolm young. he died at the age of 64. time to cross to the bbc sport centre for sportsday. hello and welcome to sportsday, with me lizzie greenwood hughes and hugh woozencroft. the headlines this evening: england make it five wins in a row over australia with a comfortable victory in rugby union's autumn internationals. north london bragging rights go to arsenal — as arsene wenger‘s side get their first win over tottenham since 2014. ruling the race to dubai — justin rose is ahead in the desert but tommy fleetwood is still in the chase. also coming up in the programme... it wasn't perfect. head coach trevor bayliss on a difficult day for england's bowlers in theirfinal warm—up match. and david beats goliath. goffin sends the great roger federer packing at the world tour finals. so, plenty to come in this evening's sportsday, but we start with rugby union's autumn internationals and an impressive win for eddiejones' england at twickenham. they scored four tries as they ran out 30 points to 6 winners over jones' native australia. but as joe wilson reports, it was a closer encounter than the scoreline suggested. the bricks and mortar of the same, but english rugby union is now defined by an australian. eddie jones has rebuilt it all, with a cautious smile. eyeing up the post, owen farrell, back in the starting line—up, partly to do this on a day of persistent drizzle, any point we re of persistent drizzle, any point were gratefully received. australia's coach simmered with officials at half—time, he had two players in the sin bin. but it was back to 15 versus 15, when an england kick suddenly turned into attack, rugby's perennial unpredictable as the bounce of the ball. the australian player waited for it to go out, the england player had just enough energy to finish it off from one end to the other. replays agonised over the touchline, the ball stayed in, the tri— stewed. much of the second half got stuck in replays, when australia crossed the line the officials decided eddie moore was offside. the coach choked. england chased towards the try line again, jonathanjones england chased towards the try line again, jonathan jones refusing the conditions, wet grass was made for this. the match had slipped from australia. suddenly england had 30 points and to win in this style could make anyone smile. those last few minutes certainly changed the complexion of the whole game. often you have to wait and fight for the right to score the try is in the closing minutes. let's get a sense of the reaction after the final whistle. it was a bit of a slugger from today. we got a few lucky bounces at the end, but certainly our boys stuck at it well. does the scoreline reflects the match? probably not, but that's the funny thing about test rugby. when you saw the conditions today, how much does that actually change the game plan? not for us, we try to create a game whether it is sunny or wet, we can set out the game, and the players are slowly coming to terms. it is great practice for the world cup in 2019. eddiejones there. well, warren gatland's wales may have hoped for a far more comfortable win as they hosted georgia at the principality stadium. however, 14 changes to the starting line—up meant wales didn't exactly open the floodgates in their 13—6 victory. joe lynskey was watching. passion for rugby always burns in cardiff, but this autumn wales are in transition, with 14 changes the idea is to build step and experience. but for georgia, these games mean so much more. not quite of the elite, a test match opportunity means bodies on the line. this saving tackle saved alex cuthbert from scoring. but the pressure was mounting, amos, a winger training to be a doctor, scoring the opening try, just the tonic. he had a second try ruled out, but georgia's reprieve brought progress. they battled back to within four points, and within the final stages they were one point from a draw. wales had to hang on when thomas francis barged his way into the sin bin. but unlike the late defeat in paris in march, they held firm in the late surge. victory for wales in the face of adversity, the best kind of experience. scotland currently have a far bigger task on their hands, hosting the double world champions new zealand at murrayfield. the scots got points on the board first through a penalty. but taylor scoring a try for the all blacks, it is currently 13—3 for new zealand with around half an hour left in that one. at the aviva stadium, ireland are hosting fiji. johnny carberry is impressing. two more tries, plus this one courtesy of the quick reactions putting ireland well ahead at half—time. 17-17 in ireland well ahead at half—time. 17—17 in dublin. now, in a minute i'll be running through the day's premier league stories with our football reporter nick hatton, but we start with the game of day — the north london derby between arsenal and spurs at the emirates stadium. it went in favour of arsene wenger‘s arsenal side who took the game 2—0, much to the joy of their fans. for spurs, though, it's nowjust one win in their last 13 visits to their arch rivals. holly hamilton reports. struggling for a win against spurs in their last six meetings, arsene wenger has been playing catch up. over the last few seasons, north london has seen a shift in power, but these things are as changeable as the weather. after 36 minutes, arsenal opened the scoring after a controversial free kick, arsenal opened the scoring after a controversialfree kick, allowing this header to sail into the far corner. and as the gunners continue to dominate in the first half, they added a second, alexis sanchez finishing from close range. after the break, spurs saw more of the ball, even this man could not come to their rescue, harry kane's first premier league north london derby without a goal. but arsenal's siege continued, sanchez almost made it a third. that result puts arsene wenger‘s team just one point behind their neighbours with plenty of time to see where the balance of power really lies. so an impressive win for arsene wenger‘s team but not what mauricio pochettino was hoping for at all. match of the day commentator conor mcnamara was at the emirates for us. well, on days like this and a performance like that you just wonder how arsenal have been out of the top fourfor so wonder how arsenal have been out of the top four for so long. notjust this season but missing out of the champions league in the last campaign as well. this was all about concentration and not making mistakes, not allowing tottenham any sniff at all. the significance arsenal is that it moves them to within one point of their north london neighbours in the premier league table. it is also a tenth successive home win in the premier league. not since arsenal have moved to the emirates stadium have they managed that many home wins in a row. but the big question for arsene wenger is how he can build on this and how they can produce that sort of performance on a regular basis. midway through the second half, when spurs made a double substitution, it was like the manager was throwing in the towel. at that stage, the arsenalfans were the towel. at that stage, the arsenal fans were already dancing in the stands. a big win from arsenal today. let's hear from the stands. a big win from arsenal today. let's hearfrom both managers, first a good day at the office for arsene wenger. iam very office for arsene wenger. i am very proud of the performance of my team because i believe that we played with purpose, desire, urgency, and pace, and would always dangerous from the first to last minute. great solidarity in our team, and in the end i am happy with the performance and the result. i think the whole game we played well, disappointed because we had the same situation to score and did not score. lucky for them that they scored the second goal, and in the second half it was difficult for us. we had the control of the game, but we allowed them to counterattack and create chances. we did not score, we we re create chances. we did not score, we were not clinical in front of the goal. we had the chance, but that is football. so plenty of drama at the emirates. what about elsewhere around the premier league? football reporter nick hatton is with me. nick, lots of goals, we'll start with the league leaders manchester city's trip to leicester. it was business as usual, they were great. sergio aguero on the bench. manchester city beating leicester by 2-0. manchester city beating leicester by 2—0. gabrieljesus giving them the lead and they doubled the advantage in the second half. manchester united have 16 wins in all competitions now, nine points clear at the top of the penny a league table. this fixture last year, city lost. the manager believes they have improved. to score one goal in that way, kevin should, he made the post pisi almost going on. that's right dizzy. we have to keep going. for me, it is promising, because we don't have a lot of time to work with the international break, just a few days together. we are continuing at work on the pitch, on the training pitch, and we have got to improve for the second part of the season against manchester city for the second game. we will see. that goal is well worth watching later tonight. let's move on to chelsea, who absolutely thrashed west brom 4—0. dreadful for west brom, but chelsea were just so good. they were really good, i didn't think chelsea had to break stride for this. chelsea took the lead, has erred, alonzo completing the scoring. the star of the show was eden hazard. the manager impressed with the team's performance, i didn't think chelsea needed to break sweat. today, we played well, against a strong team, very physical and tough team with good organisation and tactical organisation, with a good coach, with great experience. i think that the game became easier, but it was not. the manager happy. i don't like speaking about managers being under pressure. tony pulis, never been relegated, but he is in trouble, the tea m relegated, but he is in trouble, the team or in trouble. will the board give him time, will they put their faith in the man who has never been relegated? it depends, west brom, four defeats ina row, it depends, west brom, four defeats in a row, a really dismal record that tony pulis has. fans not happy at all at how the side are playing, and also the results. tony pulis basically says he will wait and see. i'm in the position i was in before the game. the board of directors will decide what they have got to do and what they have not got to do. we will keep going and keep working, i have been in this position before. i am experienced enough. but it is up to them. i feel for the players, am experienced enough. but it is up to them. ifeel for the players, the players have worked very hard today. it hasjust players have worked very hard today. it has just been players have worked very hard today. it hasjust been basic mistakes that have cost us. when you play against the top teams, you have got to be bang on. you cannot allow the goals we have allowed today. the late kick—off is going—on just down the road between manchester united and newcastle. united have had to come from behind. yes, manchester united currently leading 3—1. newcastle got the lead early on, but manchester united defender... manchester united equalised soon after. the ball came in from the left hand side this time to find the head of chris smalling. paul pogba has returned from injury as well. and he has made it 3—1 to manchester united. any concerns fans might have had seemed to have been allayed. that is the first premier league goal united have conceded at old trafford this season. liverpool had a lovely win, 3—0, over southampton. our liverpool finally signed inconsistency? —— are liverpool finally finding consistency? another two goals from the egyptian star. he is now the premier league's top scorer. liverpool doing very well, three wins in a row for them. the liverpool boss is happy with the way they are playing. lam way they are playing. i am really happy about how we played the game today because it was clear. it was a really difficult game, we knew that from the last few games, but today we were really in a very good mood. you have got to defend better but you had to try to keep the ball in the opposite half, to create something more, because liverpool are very aggressive. but when you run behind the ball too many times, and you don't have energy, that is a problem. his team have got to start scoring some goals. let's have a look at the other scores now. ten man bournemouth beating huddersfield 4—0. what happens then? you would have expected huddersfield to at least come back, but callum wilson got a hat—trick. a big win for bournemouth. swa nsea for bournemouth. swansea still in trouble, losing 2—0 at burnley. crystal palace drawing with everton. who knows what is going on at either of those teams! let's look at the top of the table. united are still playing at the moment. i know it is early days, but is anyone going to stop manchester city? david pleat says he feels that manchester city can go through the season unbeaten. i was not surprised to hear that. i think manchester city can and probably will end the season like that. look how tight it is between second and seventh, the european slots will be fought over, went they? totte n ha m , be fought over, went they? tottenham, a real opportunity missed. let's have a look at the bottom. we we re let's have a look at the bottom. we were talking about west brom, they really need to turn something around here. west ham play their first game under david moyes and if they win... if they get the win, west ham will move out of the bottom three. then you have to question what is tony pulis' future. thank goodness that the premier league is back, it is a big weekend. in the scottish premiership, celtic have extended their record unbeaten domestic run to 64 games with a 1—0 victory over ross county. county got within quarter of an hour of holding celtic to a goalless draw, before an outstanding leigh griffiths free—kick from 25 yards out broke the deadlock with 12 minutes to go. in the days other matches — aberdeen lost ground on celtic after they lost 2—0 at home to motherwell bottom of the table dundee drew 0—0 with kilmarnock. a steven mclean goal in injury time gave stjohnstone their first win in seven games — they won 2—1 at hibernian. and there was a 2—0 defeat for rangers — hamilton academical beating them in the league at ibrox for the first time since 1926. wolverhampton wanderers have returned to the top of the efl championship, thanks to a 2—0 win away at reading. in the evening kick—off, derby county can move into the top six with victory over fulham at craven cottage. so far, it is one goal apiece. meanwhile, struggling birmingham city beat nottingham forest 1—0. cardiff city stay third thanks to a comfortable 2—0 win over brentford. aston villa came from behind to win 2—1 at qpr thanks to albert adomah‘s brace. both hull against ipswich and norwich versus barnsley ended level. sheffield wednesday against bristol city was goalless. and sunderland became the first team in english football history to fail to win at home in 20 successive games with a 2—2 draw against millwall. so that's the rugby and football dealt with, but still to come on sportsday: david goffin hails the ‘best win of his career‘ as he knocks roger federer out of the world tour finals in london. and fiji fight their way into the last four of the rugby league world cup with a shock win over new zealand. before that let's have a quick look at some of the other sports stories around today. british speed skater elise christie has won the first world cup short track event of the season, taking gold in the 500 metres in seoul after she made a false start. earlier this year, christie became the first british woman to win a world championship gold, she's now one of britain's best medal hopes at next year's winter olympics. ronnie o'sullivan won his 30th career ranking event, thrashing judd trump in the final of the shanghai masters the five time world champion raced into a 7—0 lead, and though trump finally responded, the damage was already done. o'sullivan's10—3 win earned him £150,000 in prize money too. and there were two games in rugby union's aviva premiership today: worcester beat northampton 30—15, and wasps are currently beating newcastle 33 ten. justin rose is making a spectacular late charge to win golf‘s ‘race to dubai' title for the highest money winner on the european tour. he's now leading the final event — the tour championship by a shot going into the last round while his rival tommy fleetwood is two shots behind him. our reporter stuart pollitt has been following the action. the raced to do by set for a sprint finish after the main contenders justin rose and tommy fleetwood matched each other shot for shot on the third day, oath of them scoring six t5. rose takes the lead into the final room that background. birdies on the back nine. he got up and down to make his part despite finding the water. rose will win the tournament and the raced to do by. tommy is there should i have any sort of mistakes, he has done everything he needs to do, i will do everything he needs to do, i will do every thing i need to do, it is set up every thing i need to do, it is set upfor every thing i need to do, it is set up for wonderfulfinal every thing i need to do, it is set up for wonderful final day. fleetwood fired 65 to move himself into fourth place, two shots behind rose. two birdies were crucialfor the merseyside man. and he is looking forward to it. it is not even close to the biggest day of my life, but in my career it is. i enjoy these moments, this is what you practice for and what you play for, and it is brilliant, it makes me smile. it is the two englishmen who are the focus of everybody‘s attention, and only one of them will be smiling come tomorrow evening. well, england's cricketers were also out in the heat, but had a bit of a sobering experience with the first ashes test nowjust five days away. they were lucky to get away with a draw against a cricket australia 11. jason sangha, who's only 18, hit england all over the place to score a century, before mason crane ended his innings with the only wicket of the day. the home side still finished on 364—4. belgium's david goffin said he had ‘no words' to describe his joy as he beat the six—time champion roger federer to reach the final of the atp world tour finals. in fact, the seventh seed had been beaten in all of his previous six match—ups against federer, but came through 2—6 6—3 6—4. sue barker and andrew castle were watching at the o2 arena in london. what a huge upset today, david goffin defeating roger federer in straight sets. we did not see that coming. the first set, right from the word go it was roger federer's. he came through, and you thought he would go ahead and win a straight sets match. that is what he always does against david goffin. recently in basel he lost just david goffin. recently in basel he lostjust three david goffin. recently in basel he lost just three games to him. david goffin. recently in basel he lostjust three games to him. great credit to david goffin for sticking with the game plan, going for the roger federer forehand. and pushing him again and again. i did not think roger was really switched on in the final set. he was trying but it was not there. he won the first set comfortably, it is sometimes hard to get your brain blackened that mindset. that's back —— back into that mindset. he did look a little bit frustrated towards the end. a break and then australia, and i don't think you'll worry too much about this. it is a loss he should not have had, and a semifinal and loss he should not have had, and a semifinaland a loss he should not have had, and a semifinal and a final now that we could not possibly have imagined. we are saying goodbye to roger, but there is still a lot to. you very rarely see fedor being bullied from the baseline! now it is david goffin through to the final. the other semifinalists coming up. one of the semifinalists went from 24th in the world to top eight, he is not supposed to be here. dimitrov is not supposed to be here. dimitrov is playing out of his mind. we have no idea what is going to happen. it is fascinating, but david goffin through to the final and roger federer is heading home. now, the rugby league world cup, where early tomorrow morning england play co—hosts papua new guinea for a place in the last four. both will be hoping to avoid the same fate as new zealand. the 2008 winners were shocked, beaten 4—2 by fiji. that kick proving the difference on what was a famous night for the fijians. they'll play the holders australia in the semi—finals. if england get through, they will be playing tonga. new zealand rugby union looking co mforta ble new zealand rugby union looking comfortable against scotland, the latest court 28—10 to new zealand. they were losing for a little bit, and it is 17—17 in the ireland against fiji match. manchester united still leading against newcastle at old trafford. there will be more sportsday on the bbc news channel throughout the evening. we will be back at 7:30pm. good night. good evening. not a bad evening for sitting in and watching sport, particularly across the southern half of the country. it has been miserable out there. it is rain, misty low cloud, it is going to take a while longer to clear. but it will clear for most of us, and once a while longer to clear. but it will clearfor most of us, and once it does it will be a cold night. it is already a cold evening across scotland, wintry showers over the hills. you can see clearer air coming southwards. here, more limited frost, but there could be a limited frost, but there could be a limited amount of fog as well. for the majority it is a cold night. it will be a cold start to tomorrow morning, still quite a bitter wind for the north—east of scotland. lighter winds than today. it is going to be chilly, barely five, six, even in the sunshine. weather cloud comes and i think it will feel quite cold. the sun is so low. it does get a little bit milder through monday, except in the north, sticking with that cold air in the meantime.
