that's right, some of you may see a few inches of snow. good sunday, everyone. heavy rain has fallen all night on macarthur boulevard, northwest washington. cars had to contend with large puddles that stretched across the road. our area was under a flood warning for much of the day. prince william county, firefighters had to rescue people whose van got stuck in high water in noaksville this afternoon. who's looking at snow? >> hot spots north and west of town are actually reporting snow. i had a viewer call in from warren county, virginia, 2 inches of snow on the ground. winter weather advisories have been posted along and to the west the blue ridge. you folks out towards martins burg, winchester, front royal, tom's brook, stanton, washington, virginia, be on the lookout for the winter weather advisory. temperatures look like they're all above freezing but that's at reporting stations. high spots, you can see on the radar, have changed over to heavy, wet snow at this point in time. could get 1 to 3 inches out there towards winchester and martins burg. might have a few school delays. could get .5 to 1.5 inches as close as leesburg. we are now getting a firsthand look at yesterday's deadly tornado in rain, louisiana. check out the security video. you can see the strong winds tear open a door and send trash flying through the air. 12 people were hurt, one person was killed. authorities say julisa granger died while covering her 1-year-old daughter as winds brought down a tree on their house. louisiana's governor declared a state of emergency as he surveyed the damage. >> what was a home before, now just pieces of wood just destroyed on that property. you see debris scattered across several lots. so this storm did a lot of damage in a short period of time. >> yesterday's storm forced 1,500 people to evacuate. 150 homes were destroyed. mayor vincent gray has another scandal on his hands tonight. a former mayoral candidate claims he was a mud slinger for money, then got a job for it. tonight the mayor and council chair called for an investigation. darcey spencer joining us with what the mayor is saying about all of this. >> reporter: solomon brown says he received cash payments totaling thousands and was promised a job in the gray administration if he continued his attacks on his rival. mayor adrian fenty. former mayoral canned daut suleman brown is making shocking allegations that he was promised a job in mayor vincent gray's administration for continuing attack on mayor fenty during the democratic primary, and that he was paid to help bring fenty down. >> i don't know of any cash payments that would have been made. i would find that reprehensible. >> reporter: at a news conference sunday, gray denied the allegations and called for an investigation by his attorney general. he says there was no quid pro quo. >> and i did promise him an interview. and he was given an interview. he was aggressive and he kept calling many people, but that was the extent of it as far as i know. >> reporter: in a front-page story "the washington post" details various cell phone calls and text messages between brown and gray and aides to his campaign. brown also said he was given cash in envelopes by those associated with the gray campaign. he says the election was rigged and is working to clear his name. brown did get a d.c. government job but was recently fired after news surfaced he had been accused of stalking a teen and had been charged with a gun violation years ago. some say the controversy is setting the district back and creating a distraction when there are more serious issues to deal with. >> all of these allegations are very troubling. so what i recommended is that the mayor call upon the u.s. attorney to do a very thorough investigation quickly and get to the bottom of this. and if mr. brown's allegations are false, then appropriate action should be taken with regard to him. if there's merit to them, then they'll have to see where that leads to. >> reporter: council chairman kwame brown has referred to issue to the office of inspector general for an independent review. >> darcey spencer, thanks. we're following some breaking news in vienna. firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked the flames at this house along oak street. we just got this video in moments ago. we are told that the two-alarm fire started in the basement around 9:30 tonight. crews were able to get the flames under control in about 20 minutes. no one was hurt but the family of four there in vienna has been displaced. breaking news in vienna, virginia. bethany becker's boyfriend, not her husband, was the last person to see her before she disappeared. that's what loudoun county police told us. decker is a pregnant 21-year-old student missing since late january. originally police said they thought decker's husband, currently deployed to afghanistan, was the last to see her. police say the boyfriend is cooperating with the investigation. loudoun county police also told us today they are looking at activity on bethany decker's facebook page around the time of her disappearance. a volunteer firefighter in virginia is accused of taking a fire truck for a joyride after a night of boozing. sheriff's deputies pulled over 27-year-old sean swanson yesterday morning, driving one of loudoun county's fire trucks. investigators say he had been drinking. swanson is a volunteer firefighter in hamilton. >> the vehicle was a fire truck that had been placed out of service previously by the hamilton fire department. it was not a current emergency response vehicle. >> swanson was charged with driving under the influence. four other volunteer firefighters were in the truck and investigators say they were also intoxicated. they have not been charged yet but the incident is under investigation. to libya where the battle over control rages on as the country is effectively divided by two forces now. one belongs to the rebels in the east, the other belongs to pro-gadhafi forces mainly around the capital of tripoli. the rebels also say they have control over a key oil-producing region but are being met with strong opposition as they try to make their drive toward tripoli. we're following big stories in the week ahead. the east coast rapist suspect heads to court tomorrow after a tip from a caller in prince william county. aaron thomas was arrested in connecticut. police say dna links him to more than a dozen sex assaults over 12 years across four states. most of those attacks were northern virginia and prince george's county. prince william county police are expected to release new information in the case tomorrow. also starting tomorrow you'll have to pay to drive on the icc. $1.15, $1.45 in peak hours. the first stretch opened last month. there are no toll booths. that means drivers will need an easy pass or they'll be sent a bill and fine in the mail. nurses from washington hospital center will be back on the pick let line tomorrow. many walked off the job friday to protest wages, benefits and what they say is declining patient care. the strike officially ended saturday but the striking nurses cannot return to work until later this week because the replacement nurses brought in were promised at least five days of says. austin bice disappeared more than a week ago. his family desperate for news. the san diego student was in spain as part of an exchange program. his father has flown to the country to help the search near the madrid nightclub where his son was last seen. >> i want to say thank you for being here. it's hard for me to talk about it. but thank you. >> reporter: the 22-year-old left america to look for more experiences. he was writing a blog about his adventures. it talks about school and life in spain. it should be a fun night, he says. that was the evening he vanished. >> going to the disco tech, it was a little late. he decided to go back home, he decided he was going to walk home. and that was the last time that he was seen, heading north. >> reporter: he had been drinking and was on his own. he'd been in spain for just a few months. he was very calm, very sociable, one of his spanish friends says. no one has rung us with good clues or bad clues, says another. thousands have joined a facebook page as part of the effort to find him and a europe-wide police alert has been issued for the missing student. >> we have a lot of police force out there. they're working very, very hard. we just need to keep them out there and keep the volunteers out there looking for our son so we can bring him home. >> reporter: his tad says he will stay in spain for as long as it takes to find his son. a young man who left america for an adventure. and whose family now just wants to know he is safe. nbc news, london. a husband and wife renewed their vows today under the most trying of circumstances. dahlia sordo is a mother of four who's balling cancer. today she renewed her vows with her husband herman at shady grove hospital where dahlia is undergoing treatment. nurses volunteered their time to do hair and makeup and throw a special surprise reception for the couple after the ceremony. the jeweler accusing lindsay lohan of stealing a necklace released security video of the alleged incident. lohan is accused of taking a $2,500 necklace from a store in venice, california. the store says it will stream parts of the video "shortly." but did not specify when or how much of the video would be shown. lohan was charged earlier this month with one count of felony grand theft. lohan has maintained her innocence. it was rain, all of a sudden it's snowing. >> absolutely. mother nature got one on the inside corner on us tonight, no doubt about it. had quite a few calls from our loyal viewers in the blue ridge in high spots. warren county, frederick county, virginia. 1 to 2 inches of snow already on the ground. isn't sticking much to the roads because it's been so warm. we were 60 degrees at midnight last night. as a result, a lot of the roads are relatively warm. in fact, a lot of the roads, especially in northern maryland, are above freeding. a lot of the snow is coming down in northern and western maryland not sticking to the roads yet. nonetheless be advised on your way out for a late drive sunday night. most of this will be gone as far as accumulating snow potential before the morning commute. roads should be in pretty good shape. i wouldn't be shocked to see one or two isolated school delays first thing tomorrow so keep that in mind. not in downtown washington but higher spots north and west. our high today 58. current temperature down to 35 degrees at national airport. we've had more than 1.3 inches of rain at national. all temperatures above freezing at the reporting stations. some of the high spots between the reporting stations are below freezing now. also, you can get snow with surface temperatures at 35 because obviously the snow is being made in the clouds and the clouds are below freezing. so the winter weather advisory for the high spots, that goes until 2:00 a.m. by then everything should be done. could get 1 to 3 inches in the the highest terrain. winchester, tom's brook, new mark, virginia, 1 inch on the ground, .5 to 1.5 inches as close as frederick, maryland or upper montgomery county. the rappahannock river in portions of northern virginia also river flood warnings. there's been a really busy day in the weather office for sure. there's the last of the rain. this is mixing with and eventually changing to snow now. especially up in the high spots there. be on the lookout. temperatures are now below freezing. you can see here though on our future cast model the area of low pressure racing its way north and eastbound. whatever flakes are left, by 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. they'll be coming to an end. 8:00 a.m., partly to mostly cloudy. skies rapidly clearing as a brisk northerly wind comes in. north winds 20 to 30 miles an hour. late tonight into early, early tomorrow morning. then tomorrow afternoon, high pressure builds in. that will take most of the wind away tomorrow afternoon. clear skies, light breezes. a cold night monday night into tuesday morning. and tuesday night looks like a cold night as well. high pressure locks in across the eastern seaboard. the next storm starting to take shape. as we get into late wednesday and thursday, that storm will be here and that could be another big rain producer here in the washington area. could get another inch or more of rain. so clearing skies after about 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. this will be just a crazy, bad memory. breezy and much colder. wake-up temperatures below freezing north and west to mid 30s down into southern maryland and along the way. tomorrow afternoon, mostly sunny. breezy. noticeably colder. tomorrow's highs upper 40s to near 50 degrees. here's your week-long forecast. back to work and school tomorrow. mostly sunny. again, any potential for delays probably two-hour delays at the most. i don't think they're going to have to cancel schools but i'm not the one who makes that decision. put that in the record book for you. dry but increasing clouds tuesday, wednesday. thursday
