>> i called them the low information voter, people who marginally pay attention to politics and don't she up and vote if it's not convenient, if the weather is not bad that day. they're not people who have strong opinions one way or another. >> how important are they this time around? >> they're the balance that will determine the outcome and how many of them show up. >> and so, a debate like last night, first of all, that is an intimate debate, they're standing and can move closer to the audience. they're back and north, my goodness. >> uh-huh. >> and how does that bode for both candidates? >> overall, i thought president obama did certainly a lot better than the first debate and probably helped himself and might be on the libya question a bit and we'll see that on the third debate on foreign policy. and i don't think it was a game changer for either of them and romney is still close. the momentum is still with romney to some degree and i don't think president obama -- he certainly didn't stop romney's momentum, he may have slowed it but this is a concept till. >> and the focus or scope of things in this big political time, how important are the debates at all? do people really wait and see in. >> yes and no. it's -- for, you know, for political junks that, you know, live for politics and focus on every word and mannerism. for the average voter, they get lost in the tall woods of, you know, policy issues. and i am not sure they really make that much difference, unless there is a clear distinction between the, quote, winner and loser as there was in the first debate. >> the first one and how damaging was that? >> and it was damaging for president obama and he has recovered to some extent. my view can they will show that it didn't really change the dynamics that much and -- to lose. >> let's talk about the high moments for governor romney. was he looked strong on the issues? the need was out there? was it just me being a self- centered owner or my vet not saying you think about donating blood? >> no, not at all. >> and most people are not aware of that and even the humane society of the united states, we deal with issues on a national level all of the time. >> okay. >> and most of us are not aware there that there is a desperate need. just like people, dogs when they're seriously ill or injured, need transfusions. >> right. >> and most of us don't think about where that blood is coming from and there is some limited sources. we're excited to learn in our bone backyard in virginia. >> uh-huh. >> there is the blue ridge vet narrow blood bank and we decided to allow our employees who are invested in the vets already, we have a work program and love our pets. we wanted to give ur employees a chance to have their dogs become life savers and wanted to spread the message. >> right. >> around the country that there is a need that people should look for veterinary blood bank close to them or talk to their local veterinarian about opportunities. >>okay. >> and i -- and pardon me, madame beautiful, i forgot to introduce ripley. ripley has been adopted. >> yeah. >> and he was adopted from a shelter a year ago and has been donating blood on a regular basis ever since and one of our first stops was to get her properly screened because they have to go through a process. >> okay. >> and make sure they're not harbor anything diseases or genetic problems that might interfere and she donates every, just about every other month now. >> is that right in. >> and tell me about the process. is it much different from what we are used to as adults? i mean adults -- and do they have different blood types? >> we have to make sure they're happy. they have to be ecstatic about giving blood and we offer treats and enticement. when you give blood, i'll bet you don't give peanut butter. >> i don't. >> and we feed our dogs. >> okay. >> we take a small amount of blood, a cup of blood can save up to four other dogs after we process at the blood bank facility. they have two primary blood types. antegen positive and negative 1.1. negative donors are universal and can give any dog in the country. other dogs are period and can only receive -- negative dogs can receive negative dogs. >> okay. >> and positive can receive both. >> and the best age that i read from like 9 months to seven years? >> uh-huh. >> yeah. >> and is there a dog candidate? i hardly -- a canine candidate that is better than another? >> well, we're not breed prejudice, i guess. >> any breed. >> okay. >> and they can be a donor as long as they meet the weight and age requirements. they have to be over 35-pounds and a healthy weight for their breeds and can be screened as a puppy as early as nine months. >> okay. >> and we accept them into the program until they're 7, 7 1/2 and sometimes they will donate over eight years of age. >> and what is the incentive for dog owners to stitch out of the box and offer up canine blood for another dog that you will not meet?
