to make the fbi in san diego is not confirming those. san jose police said that yes, there is a federal raid at the hospital, they assisted the fbi in arrests, but then i have not said if there's any connection to the shooting death here at the border. all i would say is so far that they are following several leads, but they are being pretty tightlipped on what the leads are. >> julie: to have any idea what the lead could have beenetter them to that hospital he said they raided? snakiness reports in san jose where that it was a ping on process cell phone that possibly lead them to the hospital, but once again, we have not confirmed those reports to the fbi here. >> julie: any of his belongings missing? >> we asked that question at a news conference at order patrol headquarters yesterday, and the fbi and border patrol and want to get into those specific details, and whether his cell phone or his weapon were found there at the scene or they were missing due on his cell phone and weapon are missing? >> we don't know. they have not confirmed that. >> julie: tells the evidence at the scene that indicated one of the suspects was injured during a confrontation? america did say that there was blood found at the scene and i guess that was enough like to think maybe it was a gunshot wound or significant enough that someone might be getting treatment at a hospital or clinic. i think that has been a focus of their manhunt on both sides of the border. >> julie: i want to know more about the person mexican authorities appeared to have in custody right now and they're questioning him, i understand. this person was found in the accident side of the border shortly after the shooting. what about him to give to make a script. he was on the mexico side of the border right in the same area around 130 or 2:00 am a few hours after the shooting took place. apparently he was armed with a gun, typically used by mexndan soldiers are by law-enforcement. and it is illegal to have those kinds of weapons and mexico. so he was arrested on a charge. but they are questioning him to see if he is involved in the shooting someone is not named a suspect yet. >> right see what think you very much christina davis. >> border patrol agents to a very dangerous job tracking down darko terrorists and dealing with increasing violence all on the border. but robert process is the first agent shot and killed in the line of duty in more than ten years. joining me now, scott weber, counsel for michael chertoff at the department of homeland security. take you for talking to us. this is such a devastating story on so many levels. this agent was a 30 -year-old father of two small children. justice. when will we see it and what's being done to find these killers now seem actually, there is a massive manhunt underway with several federal agencies. the fbi is the lead on this because the killing of a federal officer is a federal crime. so the fbi in conjunction with department of homeland security, the ice component which is immigration's access to enforcement and the border patrol's working with the san diego sheriff's office and our counterparts in mexico two try and hunt down the killers of agent roses. >> julie: from what we know, the officer responded to the first incident alone. i understand the president of the border patrol unit and -- you expressed concerned over the increasing danger agents face especially since they often patrol desolate areas alone. often they don't have time for backup -- back up to -- for backup to arrive. why is that? >> it's not entirely clear that's the case. we know the agent must real contact with other agents. they heard gunshots fired, they responded to the scene very quickly as those local law-enforcement first responders. the southern border is tremendous. it's immense. the border patrol agents, though there are thousands of them, have a very difficult job. the increase in the narco terrorism as well as the coyotes who smuggle drugs and individuals across the border, they become more brazen in their efforts over time. it is probably one of the most dangerous law-enforcement jobs out there. >> julie: you mentioned in your previous answer that the killing of a patrol agent is a federal crime. here's the problem: what if those involved are across the border. would we do then? >> the hope is with cooperation from our counterparts in mexico, that they will extradite individuals to the united states for prosecution. >> julie: that's a very sad to know that it doesn't seem like there are enough forces on the border to control the drug traffic to keep our border patrol agents safe. am i wrong to assume that?
