sure, we have to all wait and see. >> there you have it. that is all the time we have left this evening. thank you for being with us. have a great weekend. see you back here on monday. >> this is a fox news alert. the president has blinked on healthcare reform. in a breath taking about case toured the awesome wonders of the grand canyon. white house officials conceded they have no real hope of pushing through one of the cherished proposals. they took all public options when it comes to health insurance. apparently bowing to the deep public unease when dozens sometimes angry town hall meetings. obama administration signaled it is willing to abandon the idea people would pick the option of healthcare insurance from public company. it is a public rival to public insurance companies -- private insurance companies. >> they have to have a government sponsored or government run-ins plan in order for him to sign off on this. >> the president has always talked about we inject a choice of competition into the private insurance market. the president has thus far sided with the notion that can best be done through public option. >> is that a hedge? >> no, what i am saying is the bottom line for this for the president is what we have to have is choice in competition in the insurance markets. if we have that the president won't be satisfied. >> now listen to the health and human services secretary kathleen seb bi kathleen sibilias. >> the president continues to believe that it is good to have cop sumer choice it's a mondopoy system is not a great way to hold up costs we don't know what they are likely to come up with. they have been more focused on not for profit co-op as a competitor as o opposed to a grt government round program. choice and competition. i am convinced the plan will have both of those. >> the proposal that was bitterly and expensively opposed by the powerful private insurance lobby is being dropped in its place with a gigantic compromise and one that will infuriate the liberal base will be offered instead is a system of consumer owned not for profit insurance company tives. it will supposedly function in a way similar to how electric and agriculture co-ops do in rural parts of the country. listen to republican senator shelby just about declare victory. >> iveng the democratic administration president bam ma a have read the tea leaves. they see the american people are beasiccally satisfied with their health insurance, they like their programs they know it could be approved but they don't want to government run program. >> listen as democratic senator ken conrad concedes defeat. >> given what he says is the public option dead? the fact of the matter is there are not folks in the united states senate for the public option there never have been. to continue to chase that rabbit i think is a wasted effort. >> as i understand the idea behind the healthcare cooperatives is even the insurance offered by private companies the co-ops theoretically would be less aggressive in trying to purge the sicker most costly patients. what i cannot figure out is how the co-ops to supposed to help cover the nation's almost 50 million uninsured. wasn't that what this was all supposed to be about in the first place? i love you folks. if my e-mails are any indication you deeply disagree most of you or many of you with my position on all of this. from my point of view it gets oon worse. in a stunning victory of hysteria they will drop the requirement that doctors get reimbursed for end of life counseling. recklessly flandflandered by sa palin and others coverage of the end of life counseling will not, i repeat will not be required in the final bill. are you doing a victory dance ann coulter? >> i care more about the country than the victory. i think it's the greatest thing that happened to obama. s opposed to the powerful industry of the powerful ama of the powerful pharmaceutical industry all of which bought off by the white house. this is the american people's victory. what we ought to do now how about we deal with the problem. it's a problem that isn't that hard to solve. obama talks about how the problem we need consumer protection. you know what the best consumer protection in the universe is? ability to say i am tacking my business elsewhere. you can't do that because of government intervention on insurance companies. you want to screw the insurance companies make them compete. >> make them compete. i promise if you want to know what happens to a company that doesn't deal with wi well with s put in apple sucks on google you will get 17 million hits on all of the web sites. people complain they sta take t business to ibm takes their bess to bill gates away from jobs. if you want to screw the insurance companies make them compete with other he knows companies. >> kirsten powers i believe what hatchin happens to healthcare is the same thing that happened to the presidential vote recount where you have brooks brothers wearing demonstrators that were so violent in their impassioned physical demonstrations preventing the physical recount of the vote that was the tem plat and first the tea parties now the town hall meetings they have to get out democrats have no business. >> wow. okay. so i think, this will come as a shock, i think the white house saw this coming before the town hall. i think they knew the public option was going to be -- some people i talked to before they had already talked about the exchange they already had kinds of shifted their messages into that he knows reform. inge they already started to back pedal. i think liberals will be upset. with all due respect to ann this is the foolish problem they have folks with no hope of getting healthcare one year cap they have cancer people are going to die. >> the government am decided the computers were really important we would all be buying ibm computers the size of this room and 47 million people would be deprived of computers. there was competition. everybody has a computer. they have their choice of computers they have their choice of computer services. you want everyone to be insured. >> ner charge. >> it's the government who said safe government limited the number of insurance companies you can have for sale. you can't buy insurance from another state. >> that suggests in other states there's some like fantastic -- >> there is. >> where? >> kentucky. >> i don't know. (talking over one another) >> the triple inch club, 4 inch club. >> all they have to do is bsh bs -- >> you know in israel former candidate mike huckabee governor welcome, i hope you can hear the intelligent debate going on here. has president o obama squandere political capital on an issue i don't know where he is going to go. if he drops the public option as he apparently has done even end of life counselins what the hel is left. excuse my language. er in the holy land. >> i was about to tell ann and kirsten don't make me come over there. >> it's geraldo we are upset with. >> president obama has lost a lot of trust of the american people because many of the things he pushed whether it was the bill that resulted in higher unemployment rate, cash for clunkers a lot of people saw as a complete ridiculous approach to throw money and tear up good cars that poor people could have used. he tried to put too much in a thousand page bill turn it over to nancy pelosi. people said that's enough. it was a grass-roots movement in which enough american people raised their voices and thank goodness they got the nonsense stopped. there were things in the bill that weren't that bad and others that were good. there were a lot of things so am big louse they and other things threatening to the america future for enterprise. i am glad they had to stop and come back. i think the cooperatives are a much better idea than a government am run healthcare system for americans. it's failed policy and it's foolish politics. >> i still, governor in your state you ran a wonderful state lots of poor folks in arkansas and what are they going to do if they get sick? are they going to go to the emergency room? isn't that why we started? aren't we gabbing to square one? we have been having all of this impassioned debate. fooch are people welling and being yelled at. >> before this was an s chip we did our program first that put a safety net under people who's children were making too much money for medicaid but not muf f enough for the private insurance party. there was buy in. there was responsibility. it worked beautifully. when the president comes out and said there are 47 million uninsured americans the reality geraldo there are a lot of those people who couldn't be insured they choose not to be because they would rather spends their money on a new car there are people self insured and people who don't fill out the paperwork. >> there are people who have -- what about the -- forget about poor people. let's talk about the middle class. middle class people who reach their lifetime caps when they get some horrific illness they can't afford to pay even paying 20 percent of hundreds of thousands of dollars is a lot of money. >> car he knows companies. >> you think that's the answer?
