everyone -- not everyone belongs in america. not everyone is created equal. >> reporter: to this day, it's still unknown just how many people have listen inch been ly. over 4,000 have been documented, including 14-year-old emmett till, brutally beaten and killed in mississippi in 1955, accused of whistling at a white woman. his cousin, ollie gordon, lived with his family in chicago. she told me this day would be full of emotion. >> i will think about emmett. i will think about his mother. and the many, many other mothers that have to endure such pain because of hate. >> reporter: over the years, this legislation failed more than 200 times. today in the rose garden of the white house, gordon standing behind the president. a witness to the history her family fought decades for. >> i mean, we look at a day like this, all these years later. and finally, finally we have an ant anti-lynching bill. it bears the name of emmett.
