[ .] the preceding was a paid presentation for hip hop abs, brought to you by beachbody.com. announcer: coming up, nick vujicic was born without arms or legs. at age ten, i came to a climax of depression where i tried to commit suicide in my family bathtub. announcer: after facing countless challenges and obstacles, an encounter with god gave him the strength to overcome the impossible. you have a choice, either you can be angry at god for what you do not have or be thankful for what you do have. announcer: from no limbs to no limits. next! james: hey, thank all of you! welcome to life today! there are people everywhere! we re so glad you re here. come be with us on tuesday evenings when we tape life today. i m james robison. betty and i welcome you to the program. i spoke for about 25 years in high schools and junior high schools and colleges over 2,000 of them. i love kids. i m thankful to say i was very well received and i appreciate that. but i have never, in my life, have i ever seen anyone as well received by young people and all people as the guest we re going to have on this program. i want you to see him. i want you to see him for just a moment the way i saw him in just some clips because our guest was born without limbs: no arms, no legs. no hope. take a look. in a moment you ll meet him. take a look. in a moment you ll meet him. watch him. nick: for those of you who don t know me, my name is nick vujicic. and basically, the lord has opened up a door for me to share the gospel message of jesus christ and the hope that we can have. and just to be an example that we can live a life as more than conquerors. that no matter what circumstance comes our way, that god s grace is sufficient and he has a purpose for your life. but i want you to get fired up. i m so captured by god s purposes for my life that s my fire, that s my purpose and i want your heart to be open tonight in jesus name, that you would just be open to what he might have for you in your life. isn t god beautiful? god is perfect! and when you trust in him, know that the victory is not when your circumstances change, the victory is not when i stand up, the victory is when i know that i can t do this on my own. when you realize that jesus is the only one who can heal your broken heart. put your hope and strength in jesus christ and he will give you all the strength you need to get through every impossibility like this. [applause] james: i want you to welcome nick vujicic to life today. nick, god bless you! i m going to give you a hug! nick: thank you. james: wow! hoo! i thought i faced some challenges without a father and without a home, and the guy that didn t get picked when they picked teams, i m still standing there. man, i don t even know the meaning of it. when you talk about being able to stand, get up when it is impossible and you can t do without god but you can and all things are possible. i can t tell you what a blessing you ve already been. we re just glad to have you. would you welcome nick, again? [applause] i tell you what, i want you to know this. he s got an incredible dvd. there is his web site right up front. go ahead and write it down. you re going to want to get it and you re going to want to encourage him every way you can as he goes all over the world to show people that in christ, i can do all things and that you can stand. we re going to talk to him a couple of days, we re going to talk to him about no limbs and no limits. i want you to know his story. tell us about yourself. tell us your story. and we ve got plenty to talk about. tell us about your journey. nick: well, really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for having me here. it is always a pleasure to share what god has done in my life. i m 26 years old, and in 1982 i was born to my mom and dad who planted a church 11 months before they had their firstborn son. i have a brother and a sister born after me, no disabilities, no complications. the weird thing was that they had no idea that i was going to be born this way until i was actually born. my mom was actually a nurse and delivered hundreds of babies before she had her first son. she told my dad again and again, i have a bad feeling. there is something wrong. my dad s like, stop being negative! just be positive! when i was born, it was a huge shock. it was like an earthquake that really tested the faith of the entire church. the question is why? why did god let that happen? why doesn t god bless the children that he loves? why did he let that happen to my parents? why did he not give me a miracle when we prayed for a miracle? as i grew up, i really didn t see myself as different for quite a number of years. and it wasn t like one day i woke up and looked in the mirror and said, i have no arms, no legs! what happened? [laughter] but it was real cool that before i went to school, i would always be surrounded by family and friends who didn t make it a big deal. when i did face the ridiculing and the rejection, i know how it feels to be picked last on a team in soccer and stuff. [laughter] i wanted to be a goal keeper but they said no. [laughter] but it was difficult at times to believe that god did love me because here i am, my dad s a preacher. i m not only not only do i have a difficult surname to pronounce and i have no arms and no legs, i m a p.k. [laughter] so when you have a cold, you have to go to church. i didn t always want to go to church. i didn t always want to hear what my dad had to say when he says, god has a plan for everybody, because i m like how can you say that when your own son was born without hope? . . . in my eyes. i learned, ask and you shall receive. god can do all things. he is a miracle. so i asked for arms and legs, and i didn t receive arms and legs. you know, faith of a mustard seed can move mountains. i really believed that god could do it. i believed every single story that i had. and the first memory of asking god for something and it went totally against what i prayed for was when i was six years old, my 27 year old first cousin died of bowel cancer, on my mom s side. and i prayed to god that he would not let him die and he died and he went to be with the lord. these things were just really difficult. at age 8 to 12 i m thinking, what kind of life am i going to have? i m not going to be able to do this and that. i have my little foot down here and i m so thankful for my foot. i can write, i can type. i never thought i d be able to go to a university and do a double degree in accounting and financial planning. i never thought i would be a worldwide evangelist and spreading the love of jesus christ, to be his hands and feet without arms and legs. it is just so ironic; god uses the foolish things to confound the wise. that s exactly what he has done in my life. but it was confusing for me. i asked him why and he didn t answer me. at age ten, i came to a climax of depression where i tried to commit suicide in my family bathtub. i tried to turn over three times and i just couldn t go through with it. i loved my parents more than i loved myself. i didn t want to leave them with a lifetime of guilt; for them to think, oh, wish we could have done so much more for our son. so thank god i didn t go through with it. i couldn t bear that thought. age 13, though, was my first turning point. it was amazing for me to realize that as much as my parents are my heroes and they love me and they know me best, sometimes all they could do was hold me when i cried because they wouldn t be able to tell me, nick, everything is going to be okay and for me to 100% believe them. so many people who loved me and wanted to encourage me and they would come up to me and say, nick, everything is going to be okay. and i m thinking, [snidely] everything is going to be okay! [laughter] man, everything is going to be just fine when i head butt you in the face! [laughter] then come you know? in my life, i thought i needed arms and legs, that s how i m going to get my joy. we try to put our security in temporary things, in circumstantial changes, when all it is, it has got to do with the heart. what s the point of having arms and legs when you re broken on the inside? i believe fear is the biggest disability of all. fear of not knowing who i am, why i m here and where i m going when i m not here. age 13 was my turning point where i read a newspaper story of a man with a disability and to this day, i don t remember what that story was about but i did have a reality check. and i talked to myself and said, nick, you have a choice, either you can be angry at god for what you do not have or be thankful for what you do have. i m so thankful that i had a loving home to come home to every day. even though i was teased at school, i knew i could come home to that. i knew deep down there was a bigger purpose, i just didn t know what that was. i was, yes, confused. i was, yes, discouraged but at 15, all of my questions were answered and that was when i read john nine and a man was born blind, had a disability, and he didn t know why he was born that way and his parents didn t, the pharisees and the disciples, they all asked jesus, why was this man born that way? was it because he sinned or his parents sinned that he was born this way? and jesus said, neither of them sinned. it was done so that the works of god may be revealed through him. and he heals the blind man. but at 15, i didn t get to the healing part. i m like, so that the works of god may be revealed through him. and it hit me, at 15, to think, oh, my goodness! wow god! you re so amazing that even though the blind man didn t know why he was born that way, it doesn t mean that you don t know. just because i don t know the plans you have for me doesn t mean that you have none. many people look at me and they believe i only have one foot. i actually have two feet, you just can t see the other one. many people say, well, faith determines reality. faith does not determine reality. you can believe all you want that i have two feet and i can believe that god doesn t have a plan for me but it doesn t change the fact that he does. it is for me to seek that. it is for me to seek him out. when i realized he asked me, nick, do you trust me? i said, yes, god. if you give me arms and legs, i ll trust you. [laughter] yeah! and i ll serve you! but i also said flip the coin, and i said, god, if you don t give me arms and legs, i ll still serve you. and i heard about miracles. wigglesworth, he talked about a man with legs up to his knees and god told him to go buy his first pair of shoes and then in the morning i ll give you legs. he did it, and it happened. it is a true story. i went to mom and dad, and i said, mom, i want to get a pair of shoes. to this day, i believe god can do miracles and i do have a pair of shoes in my closet. i promise! i have a pair of shoes in my closet, long sleeve shirts. but i know today that if god doesn t give me a miracle, i ve received the greatest miracle of all the greatest joy that will never ever be taken away from me and that s the joy of the lord that is my strength, that is my courage, that is my salvation. that s my hope! [applause] james: we re going to talk to you about no limbs, no limits. we re going to talk to you in another program because there is so much to your story. we are helping people who are caught and children who are sold into the sex trafficking. we re helping in thailand, in cambodia; we re helping in romania, which betty and i started there during the revolution helping the children there. our daughter and son-in-law went to help get the children that were living in the sewers; literally, underground, the only place they had to go, living there with the rats, and getting them homes. and now we re trying to help kids that have been sold because they re beautiful children they re being sold in the sex trafficking. and then in mumbai, india, this horrible place. you ve seen some things there going on that would be of interest to our viewers and you ve had an interest and you are helping in that same way to try to make a difference. tell me about some of the experiences or one of the experiences you mentioned you wanted to talk about. nick: we ve had some wonderful times with different missionaries on the ground there. i ve been to romania, i ve been to cambodia, and i ve been to mumbai haven t been to thailand yet. but there were so many stories. what i want to talk about is the power of jesus christ. the power of jesus is like no other, to the point where i d surrender all that i have for him because he surrendered all that he has for me. i ve never seen a power like jesus christ and there is none. there is no other man who is holy. no other man who claimed to be the son of god who died for the sins of the world and raised himself from the dead. and he is alive, exactly. and i ve never seen an alive power like this. it was amazing when i was in mumbai last year and it was my second time in india, and i was able to go to some places in mumbai. and i was preaching at a church where all of the madames brought all the prostitutes and there was a huge harvest of souls that night. but there was a woman came up to me. she said, nick, i was kidnapped at ten. i was bought for $700 u.s. dollars. i was enslaved for three years. what happens is once they re enslaved, they re brainwashed by the pimps to tell them that they told their parents that they chose to be prostitutes, which is the lowest of classes in india. they have no home, they have no family now and they re now trapped. after the three years, on average about she said she had multiple hundreds of clients, several hundreds of clients over those three years; she was able to escape. she, at that time, fell pregnant as well, had a child to feed. escaped, went out on the streets, got raped and beaten up there. came back to the only way she could earn money to feed her child and put her child under the bed while she was working on top. she was now 20. she had a second kid. the second kid died. at 20 she had just got infected with h.i.v. aids. the pimps found out and she is bawling her eyes out in front of me and she said, i just got fired from being a sexual slave. she said, but nick, hearing you preach and seeing the love of god in your eyes, now i know i can bring another soul to heaven. you can t what else is there? there is nothing else. if there is an absolute truth and you don t believe in jesus christ, you tell me what it is and it better work for me, it better work for the person dying in a dallas hospital of cancer, it better work for the orphan in africa, and it better work for the sex slave in mumbai. there has to be an absolute truth. don t give me a whatever no! jesus christ is the way, the truth, and the life. and i thank god he said no to my prayer when i asked for arms and legs. i have thought of this only about three months ago. can you imagine if god said yes to my begging at age eight, please, please, please give me arms and legs. imagine if he had said yes. imagine if i had enough time to go to heaven and speak with god one day, you re going to have all of eternity to talk but imagine if i sat down with god and i said, god, out of all of the mistakes that i made in my life, what was the biggest one? he said, nick, you wanted arms and legs. i would maybe say to him, what? was it wrong to ask for arms and legs? he d say, no, there is nothing wrong with asking. present your request to god, let the peace of god guide your heart. how would god guard your heart with the peace and mind of christ jesus? its when you want god more than anything else. he would say, nick, the mistake was that you wanted arms and legs more than you wanted me. why couldn t you just be the miracle i made you to be? nick, if you just wanted my will 200,000 more souls would have come here. we would have built an entire new city in heaven because of your obedience. now you tell me how i would have felt. i would rather have a 1,000 years of no arms and no legs and see one more soul. when i go to heaven i believe he s going ask me two questions: do you know me? and who did you bring? nothing else matters, james. [applause] james: i ve been blessed to have the greatest preachers on the planet in our conferences over the years, to preach all over the world, and i ve never heard a more effective communicator. and i say, to god be the glory. i want to talk to nick more, betty and i. betty, you haven t said a word. [laughter] and we re going to talk to him about, no limbs, no limits. and what he said about this precious woman that had been through such hell but could find jesus, that s what we re doing right now, rescuing life. i want you to help us do that. watch as we look in and see the heart of god through lisa bevere and other workers trying to rescue people out of the sex trade. trying to rescue people out of the sex trade. watch closely. lisa: i ve walked up and down this street and been in contact with a lot of the women that want something so much more for their daughters, want something so much more for their sons, that are actually growing up in this hell hole. announcer: while the life outreach mission team was investigating the red light district a woman named sema approached them on the street to invite them to her home and to ask a special request of the missionaries. lisa: this is where she lives, works, bedroom, everything. so tell me again your daughter s first name. sonya. lisa: sonya, okay. and you don t want your daughter to be a slave? [translating] uh-huh. lisa: what is this gentleman saying? i think that man was on to us. he told the girls to get us out of there and to get us out of there fast. announcer: although their time was cut short in the brothel, later that night, lisa had the opportunity to speak with sema and her daughter sonya. lisa: here mothers are no different than they are anywhere else. this daughter is a treasure to her, filled with hope and promise. but she is eight years old and if she doesn t get out of the brothels, the percentages say that 98% of the children of these girls that have been trafficked end up being trafficked themselves; it is just a matter of time before they re raped, before they re abused, and before they themselves find them trapped in this cycle of despair and human trafficking. what would you do if this was your child or your daughter in this situation? i know you would do whatever you could to rescue them out of this. i m asking you to really pray and to respond to this that both this young daughter and this mother can have hope and peace of mind, that there is a future for both of them in jesus name. james: i pray that you ll understand it s difficult for me to even talk about this horrific problem. i know it is difficult for you to even consider it but i want to ask you please, if you knew someone trapped and i m so sorry that men are trapped by their own appetites to the point that men can feed off of these horrible acts and the terrible prison that these children and women are trapped in and any way use them but it does happen. but here s the thing, so many probably 98% of all the women and the children that have been trapped into this were led into it, they were misled, misdirected and many of them taken as children sometimes with the promise to the families even of children that they were going to be taken to get a good job, have a good future. some of them that get into it, they feel like it is the only way we can make a way in our life and then they find out the hellishness, the horror of this despicable position. so i m asking you, here s the thing that s very real, this is not something you have to look at like some incurable disease and hope to find a cure, there is an answer and it is love. that love is expressed by caring missionaries and relief workers who literally planted their life and oftentimes their family in the midst of this misery and pain. they need our support, not just our prayers, but we need to enable them financially to rescue children and to rescue women out of this horrible bondage. the average cost to rescue a child or a woman trapped in the sex trade is $128. we ve been able to figure out that average by taking all the areas all over the world where we are working in areas of india, of asia, we re in thailand. we re working in cambodia, we re working in areas where there is such pain. this is the average cost so if you could make a gift of $128, we ll be able to rescue a child or a woman from this horrible place. we have a goal this year, with your help and only with your help, of course, the missionaries, they re so anxious, we have a goal of 10,000 to be rescued. we have a tremendous need in thailand to make a $360,000 addition to the thailand life center. that s because this is the place of the heaviest especially child predation anywhere in the world and we can give them a new home. they ll be singing praises to god, a new life, learn to speak english, learn to practice a trade. as a matter of fact, we re giving away this beautiful tote bag that is made by women who were formerly in the sex trade because they were held captive. so we re not only giving them an escape, we re giving them a future. we need your help. think about this, $1280 will rescue ten from that horrible bondage. could you help us rescue ten? we re really going to need the large gifts in order to reach this goal of 10,000 that so desperately need our help and can be reached. would you help? whatever gift you make, we re going to send you the tote bag. we ll send you the beautiful art piece, the collectible, new creation, the butterfly. we are new creations. this is what we re helping people become. would you dial that number, take your bankcard please do it use it like a check. if you write a check, make it to life but call us or go online, lifetoday.org. we need to hear from you. we really need your help. i m praying you re watching. i m praying you ll be reaching out. you will and you make the largest gift you can. you ll be helping set captives free. thank you for doing it. announcer: human trafficking, it s hard to believe it s happening but at this very moment thousands of innocent children, many very young are being forced into sexual slavery and exploited in every way imaginable and someone must save them. through mission: rescue life, this year you can help reach, rescue, and restore more than 10,000 children from the horrors of the sex trade in thailand, india, cambodia and many other nations. your gift today of only $128 will help rescue a child and change their life forever. and with gifts of $64 or $32 we will combine your gifts with others to help reach, rescue and restore one more child from the horrors of this lifestyle. with your gift of any amount, we ll send you the life rescue tote bag, personally made by young women who have been rescued from sexual slavery and given a new life of freedom and opportunity. with your gift of $128 or more to help rescue a child be sure to request the life rescue tote bag filled with a variety of resources from our spiritual life library. as a special challenge please prayerfully consider a gift of $1280 to help rescue ten children but also to help us expand our life center in thailand enabling us to give even more children a new home. with your gift, be sure to request the beautiful new creation bronze sculpture. please call, write, or make your gift online today! james: i want to just say thank you for your help. i want to mention this dvd. it is a two dvd set, verve what nick shares, life without limbs from no limbs to no limits. you help us, we ll gladly send you the dvd just for your gift to help you we want to do that. but there is nick s web site. now, i m going to talk to him on another program. we re going to talk about no limbs, no limits. you don t want to miss this! i want you to go to his web site. i want you to find ways you can help him do what god has put on his heart because it is awesome. would all of you join with me and betty in saying thanks to nick? he s going to be back with us in another program. you ve blessed us beyond measure! nick: thank you, sir! thank you! james: thank you, again. there is the web site. visit it. i hope you ll have nick come sometime and impact your whole city. that s the way it ought to be. the whole city! announcer: tomorrow, nick vujicic who was born without arms or legs overcomes countless challenges and obstacles to encourage us all to live a life without limits. announcer: the following program is paid for by the friends and partners of joyce meyer ministries. joyce: well, i ve heard people say, my life stinks. and i found out when that s the case, it s because they have stinking thinking. and today, i want to discuss with you how you can change that and begin to enjoy every day of your life. [music] joyce: we re going to talk this weekend about change. i tried to come up with some nifty little title but i finally just thought, change. that s what i m going to talk about. that s what we re going to call it. that seems to be the key word today, change. and i believe that god is all for change too. i think that god is always on the move. he s always being progressive. and so, the first thing i want to talk about tonight is changing your mind because nothing else ever changes in your life unless you first change your mind. i think a lot of times we d like to have change. we want to think the same old way we ve always thought. we want to do things the same old way that we ve always done em. well, you can t keep doing things the way you ve always done em and hope to get a different result than what you ve gotten in the past. amen? i think a lot of times, we want people to change, we want the world to change, but it rarely ever occurs to us that we are the ones that might need to change. we want somebody to do something, but it doesn t occur to us that it might be us that should be the ones that should do something. amen. and so, we re going to push you out of your little comfy nest that you ve been resting in. pull some of the feathers out of your nest. let you sit on a few thorns this weekend and realize that just maybe if you re not happy with your life, it s because something does need to change. but you probably have a lot more to do with that change than what you realize. amen. thank you for being excited. [cheering] joyce: nothing changes until your mind changes. and i think the renewing of the mind is a lifelong process, lifelong process. god has been reminding me over and over in the last month or so. i said, take every thought captive, joyce. every , the word every keeps standing out to me. and it s like sometimes you think, how in the world can i make sure that every thought that i think is right? well, god expects us to do it and he puts his holy spirit in us to convict us of wrong thinking, to let us know when we re thinking wrong. and no matter what jesus died for us to have, now listen to me, no matter what jesus died for us to have and he died so we can have a great life, so we could be forgiven of our sins, so we could walk with power and victory, have a right relationship with god, have peace, have joy. john 10:10 says, i came that you might have and enjoy your life. not just make it through til it s time to go to heaven but, enjoy your life. but no matter what he died for us to have, we will never have it in our experience, we may talk about it, we may pray for it, we may yearn for it, we may see it way off down the road somewhere but we ll never have it until our mind is renewed and we learn how to think the way god thinks. [applauding] joyce: so, what s been on your mind lately? some of you don t know because you never think about what you re thinking about. [laughing] joyce: come on, take a little time two or three times a day and think, what have i been thinking about? when you start to feel your emotions sinking, you start to sense you re getting in a bad mood. you feel yourself getting angry at somebody. ask yourself, what am i thinking about? you know, if you think about everything that everybody does to you, you can get mad all the time. if you sit around and think about everything you don t have that everybody else has that you wish you had, you can start feeling sorry for yourself and get in a bad mood real quick. but the good news is is you can think whatever you want to think. [applauding] joyce: come on now. that was the biggest revelation to me. and i went to church for years and nobody told me that. i can do something about the way i think. i don t have to just, oh, i can t help what i think. i mean if i woke up in the morning and my thought was, i m depressed then i just obeyed and was depressed all day. come on. jesus died to set us free. and one of the greatest freedoms that you have is the freedom of choice. [applauding] joyce: your mind does not have to be a trash can for the devil all day. it doesn t have to be a channel for him to do his dirty work though. 2 corinthians 10:4-5 says, the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they re mighty through god to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high and lofty thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of god. including thoughts and reasons and theories and arguments, the devil loves to argue with us. even maybe while i m talking right now and saying, you can control your thoughts, the enemy may be putting may be arguing with you, well, you really can t do that. you can t help the fact that you worry. mama worried, grandma worried, and you re just a worrier. no, that s not true. we can have our minds renewed. let s go to romans chapter 12. nothing changes til your mind changes. wishing won t get it done. hoping won t get it done. yes, prayer is powerful and we need to pray, but we also must renew our minds. how do you renew your mind? with this right here. [applauding] joyce: the word of god. don t even expect to be a victorious christian if you re not going to study. you must study. and i personally think there s a difference in reading and studying. some people don t even read. then, there s a few who read a little here and there or they might come and listen to me or they might watch a tv program, but they don t study. you must study. the bible says, study to show yourself approved, a workman that needeth not be ashamed. no doctor would expect to be a doctor without studying. how many of you would go to a doctor that you knew never studied? [laughing] joyce: how many of you would want to go to a dentist that you knew never studied? well, pretty simple isn t it? if we want to be victorious christians, if we want to graduate properly from the school of life, then we must study. i ll be honest with you, i thank god for what i know but it s taken me 32 years to know it and i m still learning every single day. we need to be lifetime learners. now, there s something wonderful about the word of god. it s not like other words. it has power in it. the word of god is full of life and it s full of power or anointing. jesus is the word made flesh. [applauding] joyce: this is the will of god. this is how we hear from god. this is how we know what god wants us to do. but there s something wonderful about this. i don t want to use the word magical, but it s just like there s a transforming power that takes place when we really commit to studying the word of god. if you spend the weekend here with me and you listen, now you can sit there and watch everybody s outfits and think about what you re going to eat when the conference is over [laughing] joyce: i mean you can sit there and go like this and you can go all over this city and not pay one bit of attention to anything that goes no wonder the devil is working so hard to try to steal our ability to concentrate. do you know how hard it is to keep your mind on any one thing today for more than a few seconds? [applauding] joyce: and i really believe it s a plot of the enemy. we have so many images coming at us now. it s like pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow! and it s not good. and i think our kids who spend all their time with these video games. i think they re going to have even more trouble than we have. make your kids think. don t let em just get everything off of a computer and everything off of another machine. i m not saying not to use modern technology, but we have to protect our god-given ability to meditate. and to meditate means to roll over and over in your mind, to think on, to mutter, to study, to ponder. and the bible says that if you will meditate on the word of god that it will change you completely. amen? [applauding] joyce: and don t tell me you don t know how to meditate because that s what you do when you worry. [laughing] joyce: some of us don t have any problem at all thinking about our problem all day long. i mean we think about it and talk about it, think about it, talk about it, talk about it, think about it, think about it, talk about, talk about, think about, think about, talk about it. but then, when it comes to the word of god, we re like, well, i just can t do that. [laughing] joyce: romans 12:2, do not be conformed to this world fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs. in other words, don t just be a superficial christian who goes off to church once a week and lives like the world the rest of the week. but be transformed, changed, by the entire renewal of your mind by its new ideals and its new attitude so that you may prove for yourselves what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of god, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in his sight for you. you see, i know that god is alive. i know that jesus is real. i know the holy spirit is dwelling on the inside of us as believers. i know that this works. why? because i have proved it out in my life. [applauding] joyce: this says if you renew your mind, then you can prove for yourselves what the will of god is. we do not even know how messed up our thinking is until we really begin to study god s word and see how we should be thinking compared to the way we do think. you need to think properly about yourself. that s one of the biggest problems that we have is the way we think about ourselves. we do too much i can t thinking and not enough i can thinking. you want a miracle? well, miracles come in cans. [laughing] joyce: not cant s, amen? i can do all things through christ. i can be happy even when i don t get my way. i can do this. i can, i can, i can. not i can t, i can t, i can t, i can t, i can t. you can t change unless you change your mind. let s go to ephesians 4. i think a lot of people are trying to change, but they haven t ever changed their mind. they think the same old way that they always thought. i know i did, and i m sure that many of you still deal with stinking thinking. can anybody say amen? audience: amen. joyce: as long as we re alive, we re going to need to hear messages on the mind and the mouth and selfishness. ephesians 4:22, strip yourselves of your former nature put off and discard your old unrenewed self which characterized your previous manner of life and becomes corrupt through lusts and desires that spring from delusions; and be constantly renewed. this is not a one-time thing. you can t just get it all coming to this conference this weekend. and be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude. we might as well say that every single day we need to get a mental adjustment and an attitude adjustment. how many of you know a few people that could use an attitude adjustment? [applauding] joyce: how many of you would be honest and say that it s you, you need the attitude adjustment? alright. and here s what happens then if you do that. verse 24, and put on the new nature. see, this really taught me something when i saw this. verse 22 says, basically saying, stop acting the old way that you used to act. and verse 24 is saying, and start acting the way god wants you to act. but the bridge to get there is to be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind. so, it s like if i m over here but i want to get over here, there s only one way to get here and that s through there. well, if i m a christian who wants to behave the way christ wants me to behave but i m still behaving the old way that i know i shouldn t behave, there s only one way for me to cross over and that s daily to renew my mind and my attitude according to the word of god. god is not pleased with our stinking thinking. [applauding] joyce: and by the way, he knows every thought that we think. [laughing] joyce: every, every thought that we think. and that s not under condemnation, but we need to understand that thoughts are powerful. and i think not only does our mind need to change but, i want you to listen to this, what you think about how to change has to change. we have to change the way we think about change. we cannot change just be trying to change. i m telling you for years and years and years, i tried and tried and tried and tried and tried to change. i would read the bible and try. i would go to church and hear a message and try. anybody been there, done that? i mean i tried til i just almost died. and then, i d tell god how hard i was trying, thinking maybe he d feel sorry for me but [laughing] joyce: it didn t work. and then, i d go into my drama and i d just give up, god, i just can t do this anymore. [laughing] joyce: here s how we change. we hear some truth. we re convicted by it. the bible says that the word of god is like a mirror. when you look in here, you see the way you should be and you see the way you are. i love to think about the word as a mirror. you know, i can have dirt all over my face and not know it unless i go look in the mirror. well, i was a mess but i didn t know it until i started looking in the mirror of god s word. i thought everybody else had a problem. i didn t know it was me. [laughing] joyce: and some of you maybe came here tonight and you think that the person you re married to is your problem or that not having enough money is your problem, the world is your problem. if you had a better house, you d be happy. no, you probably need to look in the mirror. oh, i didn t know that was there. come on now. [applauding] joyce: so first thing is is to recognize that what you re doing is wrong, repent which means that you re willing to turn away from it, you re sorry for it and willing to turn away from it. true repentance is not just, oh sorry. it s you re sorry but you re also willing to turn away from it. then, the way that we change and we see that we have a problem is first thing we do is ask god to help us change, can t change without god. and then what you do is you study the word in that area where you need to change. if i have a bad attitude, studying prosperity won t help me get a better attitude. [laughing] joyce: if i ve got a bad attitude, then i need to study attitude. if i m angry, i need to study anger. if i m in unforgiveness, then i need to study forgiveness or unforgiveness. it s really not that hard. if you have a headache, you don t put a band-aid on your head. [laughing] joyce: if you cut your finger, you don t stick an aspirin in it. [laughing] joyce: this is a medicine chest for your life. god s word is the medicine that we need to heal our souls. there s power in the word. if somebody hurts your feelings and you want to rip their head off but you know that you need to get yourself back to work the next day and you need to forgive them and you need to treat them right and you just think, there s no way i can do this because my emotions are just like in high gear. then, you take a little time. you get somewhere with god. you get in the back of your concordance and you look up everything you can find on anger, forgiveness, unforgiveness. you open it up, you read it out loud and you go to the word like you re going to medicine. and you say, i m going to take my medicine. [applauding] joyce: i m going to take my medicine and i believe it s going to heal my wounded soul. come on, it s very practical. your word, oh god, is the medicine that we need to bring healing. so, you can change but you can t just do it by trying. proverbs 23:7 says, as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. another translation says, as a man thinks in his heart, so does he become. so, i ve reworded it a little bit and i like to say it like this, where the mind goes, the man follows. if i put my mind on a hot fudge sundae, let me tell you what, before this weekend s over, i will get a hot fudge sundae. come on now. [applauding] joyce: you know how we are? don t tell me that you can t do it. we do what we want to do. there s no point in saying, well, i just don t have time to study. what s important to you is what you spend your time on. we must believe that everything is subject to change except god himself. don t look at your kids and say, you re never going to change. and don t go around thinking about yourself, well, i m just never going to change. my finances are never going to change. i m never going to get out of debt. i m never going to have anything. nothing s ever going to change. you need to say, all things are possible with god. there is nothing that god cannot change. [applauding] joyce: and not only that, he can do a whole lot more than you can even imagine. god is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond. ask for bigger things. be daring in your prayers. the bible says, god is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond all that you could ever dare to hope, ask or think according to his power. don t ask for a bunch of little stuff and then go around saying, well, it s never going to change. you be daring and you ask for big stuff and you say, all things are possible with god. there s nothing that can t change when god gets hold of it. [applauding] joyce: there are some rare individuals in the world and some that we find in the bible who dared to believe that things could change. nehemiah was a man like that. i d like us to go take a look at him. let s go to nehemiah 1:2-4 and we ll be putting these scriptures up on the overhead. the land was in a state of ruin. their walls were torn down, which meant they had no protection from their enemies. everything that he looked at was a mess and yet he dared to believe that they could rebuild. let s read verses 2 through 4, hanani, one of my kinsmen, came with certain men from judah, and i asked them about the surviving jews who had escaped exile, and about jerusalem. so basically, nehemiah said, how s everybody and how s everything? and they said to me, the remnant there in the province who escaped exile are in great trouble and reproach; the wall of jerusalem is broken down, and its fortified gates are destroyed by fire. now, when we hear something like that, we do have to have some kind of reaction to it. we have some kind of a reaction. and so, some people might say, oh, that s too bad. some people might say, somebody needs to do something about it. some people might even pray for god to fix it. but you better be careful what you pray for because when you ask god to fix something, he s liable to want to fix it through you. [applauding] joyce: yeah, you ain t too happy about that. i d like you to be happier about that. when you ask god to meet somebody s need, you better be careful because he might want to meet it through you. as a matter of fact, god told me some time last year. he said, i don t want you praying for anything anymore that you re not willing to do if i give you the means to do it. [applauding] joyce: so when we hear things, there is a reaction. but sad to say, there s so much passivity in the world today and everybody just always figures somebody else ought to do it or will do it. and we need to get a little more of nehemiah in us. joyce: well, our thoughts have to change before our life changes. if we don t get our minds straightened out, we won t get our life straightened out. philippians 4:8 is a really wonderful scripture. it says, for the rest, brethren, whatever is true, worthy of reverence, honorable, seemly, just, pure, lovely and lovable, whatever is kind, winsome, gracious, if there s any virtue, excellence, if there s anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things. now, listen to this, it says, fix your minds on them. it s really telling us that we need to think good things. think things that are going to benefit you. don t be the kind of person that always goes to the negative or never believes the best about people. you re going to help yourself if you have better, more positive thinking. today, we re offering a four-cd audio series called change. perhaps you need to change your mind. perhaps you need to change the way that you think. change is almost always necessary before we come up into a new level. today, we re offering this for your gift of any amount. you see, we really want you to have this series. we really believe that this is a very important series. and so, we just ask you to do your very best and i believe that every person will benefit from this teaching. joyce: change only comes because we confront fear in our life, not because we never feel fear but because we confront fear. announcer: it takes courage to change and in this four-part cd series called change, joyce shares the simple principles of god s word that ll help you make those positive changes and it s available now for your gift of any amount. to order, call us toll free at. or visit joycemeyer.org. announcer: coming up tomorrow. joyce: you ever been there? it s like, something s got to change. i can t keep living like this. god please, you ve got to change something. and then the minute he starts trying, you re like, what are you doing? announcer: the joyce meyer conference tour 2010. don t miss out on an encounter that can change your life. joyce will be in chattanooga, tennessee april 8th, 9th and 10th the mckenzie arena on the campus of ut chattanooga with worship by martin smith of delirious. then, grand rapids, michigan, april 22nd, 23rd and 24th at resurrection life church with worship by matt redman. admission is free and open to everyone. get more info at joycemeyer.org or call toll free. female: and.she s off; get the kids ready for school, let out the dog, switch over the laundry, get ready for work, drop off for kids, go to work, do the work, pick up the kids, ballet, soccer, homework, dinner, dishes, laundry, lay out the clothes, kiss em good night. and then it s tuesday. something out of balance here? eat the cookie, buy the shoes. in the upcoming release from new york times best-selling author, joyce meyer, find out what god says about how you treat yourself. available april 13th wherever books are sold. eat the cookie, buy the shoes. cc by aberdeen captioning 1-800-688-6621 www.abercap.com announcer: the preceding was paid for by the friends and partners of joyce meyer ministries. announcer: the following is a paid presentation for russ dalbey s winning in the cash flow business, brought to you by dalbey education, education for success. [laughs] nope, i mean, there s so many people out there that have never even heard of a cash flow note before. they re everywhere and with over $200 billion in cash flow notes across the country, i mean, you can see why i m so excited about my program. there are cash notes everywhere you go and they are literally created every day of the week, probably every hour, maybe every minute. they re just everywhere. i looked in my home state, one zip code 150,000 notes available. i never leave my home and i can find notes anywhere in the united states. so far i ve done 21 deals and i ve made over $48,000. now, do people need investment capital to get this program to work? no, and that s the greatest part of my program. you don t need any investment capital, you don t need to buy or sell anything in fact, you don t ever even have to leave home. and what makes this so incredibly easy is most folks are thrilled to find out that they have the opportunity to turn their note into immediate cash. there s a lot of people out there that need money and they don t even realize that they can sell their note, until someone like me contacts them and helps them access that money. and you call them and let em know that they have the opportunity to cash that out, and they get really excited about it. they ve already started spending the money and we re not even done with the deal yet, so that s a lot of fun. it s a fun, fun business. it s exciting. i mean, i can t imagine doing anything else that would be better. i didn t have to buy anything, i didn t have to invest any of my own money. i was able to make $5500, and it s, it s all because of winning in the cash flow business.
