new hampshire on advertisements hitting nikki haley particularly on immigration. i want to give you an update because last hour, we talked about what we saw from donald trump's social media which was him going after ramswami calling him disin-- this was a pblatantk and i'm told by his advisers it's not because of anything they're see ng the polls but because of a tweet he sent out saying free trump, vote vivek, with pictures of donald trump. trump was shown that tweet and obviously didn't like it. they also didn't like the comments he made recently on nbc. they said he's been issuing kind of sleights at the former president they believe and they
trying to do here in iowa is to change the electorate by bringing out people who have never caucused before. so he needs those people to actually show up. there was another part of his message, too, and that was essentially attacking nikki haley. take a listen to what he said. >> she's not suited for the job. i know her very well. she's not suited. the big thing, and i say it every speech. don't sit on it, even if you think we're winning by a lot, you have to get out and vote. we're really setting the table for november by doing that. >> reporter: now, part of what they are hoping to do in iowa is win by a large enough margin to set the tone for the primary and stop momentum that his gop rivals have, particularly nikki haley, ahead of new hampshire. we know they are concerned about haley in new hampshire. they have been watching her rise in the polls and they're already spending $4.5 million between the campaign and the super pac to attack just nikki haley. just for a reference point, they don't have any advertisements
advertisements against her. they're hoping if they can get away with a big margin it will stunt any growth, any momentum haley has. the last part of his message, go out and caucus. he has continued to say this. we are told privately he is concerned about the weather. he wants people to go out and show up on monday. one thing we have been reporting is a big part of their strategy is bringing out new first-time caucusgoers and they want to make sure they actually show up on monday. >> i'm sure all the candidates are hoping for that. but this weather is a major factor. kristen, thank you so much. let's go to kylie atwood tracking nikki haley's campaign. how is she using these critical final hours before the iowa caucuses? we know she did a lot of virtual events. what's today like? >> reporter: yeah, so earlier today, she had to cancel her event in the eastern part of the state because of the weather. because of how dangerous the conditions are out there for people to drive around. she is set in about an hour to
really saturating the airwaves, though? it's been reported she has spent a ton of money on advertisements. >> yeah, i mean, nikki haley has been the momentum candidate of this race. that includes fundraising. earlier in the year, she had no money to be on the air in iowa or elsewhere, but as of late, her as her debate performances have been strong, as she kind of locked in some more enforcement, with that has come down or money. she's been able to get up on the air here of her campaign and her super pac, spending pretty heavily on the airport in iowa and new hampshire to try to shake the results of this race. but alex, listen to this. even before this week, before the final week of this race, the campaigns had spent 100 million dollars on the airwaves in iowa alone. that money goes a very long way, and relatively small, medium markets. the voters here have been blasted with television commercials since this summer. i think one thing that's been constant across all the voters i've talked to in the states they are quite ready to be done seeing political television ads here for a little while. >> oh, i'm sure! they're like, bringing the dog food commercials, okay!
