Exactly right. for president obama, things have changed profoundly since the time of his campaign. it s not just tactical changes. at the time of his campaign, there were millions and millions of americans who felt like they were part of something. that they were connecting with him, and he easily connected with them. his time in the white house, he seems to have systematically disengaged with the public. he s perceived as being aloof. his administration is seen as insular. he has a very small group of advisers who have seemingly unmitigated access to him, that often are seen as engaging in warfare with the cabinet or the agencies or congress, looking down upon others and telling them where the world is going or where they intend to go rather than the more incluesive consultative almost movement volunteer effort that he had in the campaign. it s hard to sustain. i don t diminish the challenge. but things have gone further along than i suspect the president realizes, and it would do him some good to
