turning to capitol hill this afternoon, the house is expected to pass a stop gap measure to avert a government shutdown at midnight tonight. that's after the senate passed it today. the bill expected to include funding for planned parenthood over the objections of many conservative members. but the news making the biggest waves on capitol hill today is house majority leader kevin mccarthy comment about the benghazi committee in the house and the impact on hillary clinton's poll numbers. take a listen to what he had to say. >> everybody thought hillary clinton was unbeatible. right? we put together a benghazi special committee, a select committee, what are her numbers today? her numbers are dropping. why? because she's untrustable. no one would have known that had happened had we not -- >> i give credit you for that. >> moments ago, hillary clinton
speaker right now, wants to be the new speaker of the house s. there so much concern of house republicans that may not happen? >> reporter: he'll be speaker. i don't think this could hurt that prospect but i think that what you're starting to hear now in this echo chamber is, is this guy ready? he will have the votes and nobody else really want this is job and the conservative forces that say they want it have not been able to assemble behind somebody else but keep in mind he will have the least amount of experience for speaker since anyone of 1891. never served as a committee chairman. first got here in 2006 so the questions are out there and an answer like last night on fox only amplify that, as well as give democrats quite a gift. this is something they have been trying to push for a while and have somebody as high up as a next speaker saying it, that's something to take to the bank and go all in on, kate. >> luke russert, talking to a me believe of the benghazi
. the controversy over hillary clinton's private e-mail isn't going away soon. on thursday a federal judge said that clinton did not comply with government policies in the use of her e-mail account. we couldn't be here today if the employee had followed government policy. judge sullivan also urged the state department and fbi to expand their investigation into clinton's e-mail serve. a new cnn poll shows 56% of americans think clinton did something wrong by using her personal e-mail address. 39% say she didn't do anything wrong. the clinton campaign is working harder than ever to calm the storm over the controversy. they released this campaign video earlier today. >> the head of the benghazi committee in the house even admits hillary clinton's e-mails has nothing do with the benghazi inquiry that is supposed to be the charge of his committee.
they asked me, do you think this will a general election problem for secretary clinton? we like her, we want democrats to win the white house but we're not sure about where this is going to go. and that's one of the challenges here. and democrats hope republicans do overplay their hand and hope when that benghazi committee in the house -- when she testifies before that in october, they hope republicans do overplay their hand. but they can't be sure of that. so the challenge here for the clinton campaign going forward is they have little control over this inquiry that the justice department is doing and that the house congressional select committee on benghazi is doing. so a campaign never likes to have things out of their control. so that is what is unsettling to them no matter whether hillary clinton likes to make a joke about it or not. >> there was a great "washington post" story on that this morning, about the lack of control her camp feels over it. they don't know where it's going to go.
agencies. i think there is a belief that something that was classified or should have been classified is now out in the public due main and at least one inspector general, not both of them interested in seeing if the fbi wants to look through and see if anybody mishandled information. it was not as first suggested a specific inquiry into health care's handling but a search whether anybody put classified information in the public due main. >> you know that turf war extended to capitol hill because some of the gop like house speaker john boehner jumping on this story calling on mrs. clinton to turn over her server. she has said we heard her, welcomes an examination of all relevant e-mailings. do you think the clinton camp can characterize this as partisan politics and is it partly that? >> it is partly partisan politics i think a lot of what you see from the benghazi committee in the house and
committee since the select committee's formation less than a year ago, the department has provided seven briefings. witnesses at each of the committee's three hearings, 21 witness interviews since february and reside over 45,000 pages of documents to the committee, as well. now that the front row has filled out including with two fox reporters, i'm happy to start the briefing now. >> and sure enough, later in the day, there was fox news with its story slamming hillary clinton. internal e-mails show clinton got internal e-mail on planned benghazi hit. so conservatives are excited about these e-mails is anybody else? is there political hay to be made from them? joining us now from the north lawn of the white house, casey, thank you for joining us. i'm just curious, when we look at these statements coming out from john boehner, john corbin
>> i wonder how her campaign is thinking about this, too. the issue of the e-mails, for instance, the issue of the e-mails, the issue of dealing with this benghazi committee in the house, but also the issue of dealing with the press, the fact that she did take time today, five, ten minutes, i think. but for her, let's face it, that's a lot of time in these last few months. to take questions from the press up there in new hampshire, that's a significant departure of what she's been doing. do we read anything boo that about her campaign looking at the approach to the media any differently or do they go back to sort of silence for the next month now? >> it is certainly a significant increase in the number of questions we heard hillary clinton take since she did announce that she was running. look, i think they clearly have made some major adjustments in their strategy from 2008. you just look at the kinds of people they've hired, many of who have good relationships with the press. you look at how they handled the rollout of that schweitzer book.
