In 20 years global giant Starbucks hasn't bowled over New Zealand coffee drinkers, so it's changing tack.

Starbucks revamps and expands after struggling to win over NZ 'coffee snobs'

However, Starbucks struggled to compete with the established coffee culture and, by the time the licence was sold to Tahua Capital, the chain had shrunk to 22 cafes.
There were now 24 Starbucks.
Tahua Capital chief executive Charles Belcher said the company was “cautiously looking at growth post Covid-19 and when the right opportunity comes up then we are going to go for it”.
The Queen St cafe had been revamped, with a street front and a cinterior design featuring a new coffee bar, hand-painted artwork featuring the siren, and blues and greens inspired by the coast.
Belcher said every cafe had been remodelled with a bespoke design that reflected their communities.

The local Starbucks business is gearing up for a busy 2021.
After what was a disruptive 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, affecting the company's sales revenue as borders remained closed, Starbucks is looking ahead
to brighter days and more store openings.
Owned by Kiwi investment company Tahua Partners, which also owns the local Burger King business, Starbucks is in expansion mode and actively looking to increase its portfolio.
The business currently has 24 cafes nationwide spread across 12 cities and plans to open three more; one each in Britomart, Albany and Manakau in the first half of the year.
