bret: the death toll from a massive earthquake that shook turkey and syria today continues to climb. it stand injured. the world health organization estimates the death toll could climb exponentially. countlessbodies are believed to be under the rubble and some survivors have been texting or tweeting out calls for help from underneath the debris. today in southern turkey, a second earthquake or aftershock 7.6 within 12 hours of that first quake. correspondent alex hogan has the story. it s turkey s biggest earthquake in nearly 100 years as rescue teams there and in northern syria search through mountains of rubble for survivors. thousands are dead and missing or wounded. more than 20 countries, including the u.s. pledging support. the president authorized an immediate u.s. response in addition to the u.s. personnel currently on the ground. this hospital s plead for international aid. the situation is too bad. we need urgent help. millions of people throughou ....
[inaudible conversations] good to see you guys. call this hearing good to see you guys. let s call this hearing to order. today considering what we are dealing with i m sure there s going to be a lot of good questions. to look at the budget for fy 2023 as i said earlier we are very close as you know to having this become a reality. it s a big deal because we are taking care of all areas after decades of inaction by the government. this bill has had a broad bipartisan support with a vast majority of senators voting to move it forward, and i think everybody on the committee would agree we don t need to waste a lot more time to get the benefits where they are due. there is a negotiation on amendments going as we speak. the ranking member and i couldn t do this, but we did agree on a couple of amendments when this bill went out. both republican amendments. unfortunately [inaudible] so, they are continuing to hopefully move forward on that. so, we have a lot to visit about ....

Unwavering commitment to make sure that the special counsel cannot be fired, that this investigation cannot be a victim of political interference. The president has indicated that he is averse to hearing about russia or considering its threat to this country. That aversion certainly sets back his ability to defend this country against the russian threat through sanctions and other means and deterrence that will assure that russia is made to pay a price so they do not do it again. In conclusion, let me just say that aversion must be overcome. We need to send a signal, as we did by passing sanctions, that we will take action against russia to stop it from interfering again in this election, that we will make sure that russia is made to pay a price, and that our constituents know that we will insist on a fair and independent investigation without political interference, passing legislation that is bipartisan.
