Spiral (2021): From the Book of Saw" is unchallenged at the North American box office on its second week. The latest and ninth installment of the "Saw" film series remains atop the chart as it faces almost no competition on yet another quiet weekend.
The
Chris Rock-led horror film adds an estimated $4.6 million to its domestic gross, bringing it to $15.8 million so far. Internationally, it has earned $6.7 million for a global total of $22.5 million, bringing the "Saw" franchise to cross the $1 billion mark globally with $1,000,799,533 to be precise.

This weekend, two horror heavyweights will duke it out for US box office supremacy, with Zack Snyder’s limited release of
Army of the Dead going severed head-to-head with the latest entry in the
Saw series, the Chris Rock-starring
Spiral.
But while those films films are sure to satiate audiences’ thirst for blood, the week’s more satisfying genre thrills might just be lurking on Netflix.
Oxygen, the latest from French provocateur Alexandre Aja, makes its debut on the streamer Friday. The film stars Mélanie Laurent as a woman who wakes up trapped in a futuristic cryogenic chamber with a dwindling supply of oxygen and no memory of how she got there. With the help a robotic medical interface (voiced by Mathieu Amalric), she attempts to survive before her air supply runs out.

Burns Court Cinemas, Sarasota and Bradenton Regal movie theaters to reopen

Burns Court is owned and operated by nonprofit Sarasota Film Society along with Lakewood Ranch Cinemas, which screens wide-release movies and reopened at the end of March. Sarasota Film Society president and CEO Renee Baggott said they decided to reopen Burns Court following Lakewood Ranch’s successful return and the conclusion of movie awards season after the Oscars on April 25.
“The Oscars will be over by then, so the independent programming is a little bit easier to obtain going forward now,” Baggott said.
Like Lakewood Ranch Cinemas, Burns Court will initially open Fridays through Sundays only, and will feature similar safety measures such as reduced capacity and requiring masks except when patrons are eating or drinking. Both theaters also plan to continue offering private theater rentals, a popular option during the pandemic.
