Slog AM: Yaaas Democrats Give Us More Nothing, Tacoma Detention Center Must Stop Paying $1/Day, and Bellevue Is Not the New Seattle

One old man is ruining millions of lives. Democrats have removed paid leave from Biden’s reform package, the latest attempt to get coal miser Joe Manchin to sign off on the deal. At this point “maybe now Manchin will cooperate” is like “maybe this time Trump will face the consequences of his actions.” The plan could be watered down to just mailing everyone in the country a single slice of government cheese and he’d still...

Join Edmonds composer and music producer Ed Hartman for a special free screening of the 1938 silent film,
As the Earth Turns, Friday, May 7 at 1 p.m. via Zoom. Reservations are required at zoom.us/meeting/register/tJUlfu2opz0tG9fLNXf6fmC1TdgJV0Abi88Z. Presented by the City of Edmonds Arts Commission.
“As the Earth Turns” is a science-fiction silent film by former Seattle filmmaker Richard Lyford. It is one of several films Lyford made before finding success with Walt Disney Studios in the 1940s. As with most of Lyford’s early films, it was presumed lost until it was discovered in the basement of his former Seattle home over 80 years later.

A Big Seattle Movie Guide: What to Watch and What to Skip

Old, new, major, minor—here’s our city, and sometimes our state, on the screen.

A pan across lake union. Then we plunge into a tugboat's engine room, where we meet the married, middle-aged couple who own it. They'll spend the next hour and a half engaged in bouts of slapstick bickering. That’s how Seattle first hit cinema screens, in 1933, in
Tugboat Annie. It's not exactly a must-see, but since then, the city and the state around it have been portrayed in hundreds of movies (many shot in Vancouver, BC). Below are brief reviews of films that are significantly set here, divided alphabetically into three categories: Definitely Watch, Worth a Watch, and Skip. We’ll keep adding as we keep watching.

Edmonds Art Beat: A conversation with Ed Hartman, an award-winning, musical renaissance man.

Ed Hartman
I am a musician and often am researching new and creative ways to produce originals. One of the well-known resources in our community is Ed Hartman, long time musician, composer, award-winning tv & movie score creator and drum instructor. Recently I learned that this multi-talented musician is an Edmonds resident. I reached out to learn more about his work and to see if he would share with
My Edmonds News; luckily, he was willing to take my call.
Ed Hartman moved from Chicago to Seattle in 1979. He has been many things in the music industry, from musician to composer, teacher to business advisor and so much more. Until 2017, Hartman was running the Wallingford Drum Exchange while working on music scores and teaching others to do the same. Over the last year he has shifted his focus to teaching virtual drum lessons, continuing to support musicians wanting to learn how to get their music on tv and movies, creating a podcast, and continuing to compose scores and jingles of his own.
