We’ve just been through a year-plus in dealing with a global pandemic. Many of our actions and reactions were laudable: The toughness of our frontline workers, our own adaptability and community-minded actions, and countless, personal brave and selfless acts. But we stumbled as well, and in some instances and with some strategies we wished we had a do-over.
We’ve asked several people in the Capital Region to look back over the past year, and to also look forward. If, heaven help us, another pandemic takes hold in the near future, with what we know now, how might we react differently. What are some of the lessons we have learned?

All week, a scouring wind — hissing in the attic windows, rocking the upper reaches of the trees, sending empty trash cans rolling in the street like ninepins. The snow recedes as winter fades, exposing all the frozen garbage.
This demonstration of what English teachers call the pathetic fallacy has been brought to you by the accelerating collapse of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration in the face of two scandals that only seem unrelated. They are, in fact, both plugged into the pathology of one man.

De Rosa, Cuomo's top aide, told top Democrats frustrated with the administration's long-delayed release of data about nursing home deaths that the administration "froze" over worries about what information was "going to be used against us," according to a Democratic lawmaker who attended the Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021 meeting and a partial transcript provided by the governor's office. We have a new president – and the first-ever female vice president. What comes next for the country, the state and the region? We'll soon find out.
On this episode of The Eagle, Times Union Managing Editor of News Susan Mehalick says many New Yorkers are optimistic about the new administration in Washington. The inauguration also marked a first for the state: Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a Brooklynite, became the first Senate majority leader from New York. Plus, the coronavirus rages on in the Capital Region. More than 750 people have died from the virus in the region, and there are not enough vaccines in the state to meet the demand.
