citizens in sudan who are seeking our assistance in leaving sudan, we'll continue to do this. we've been working very hard to make sure that our embassy personnel was able to get to safety and that american citizens with whom we were in contact and asked for assistance were able to get to safety. >> stephanie busari is following the events and joining us from la lagos. what do we know and what is happening to americans once they get to port sudan? >> reporter: drischristine, we' hearing that some 700 people have been assisted as part of the three convoys which started on saturday. the first u.s.-led evacuation efforts to get private citizens out of sudan. so we don't know the breakdown of the nationalities, but of those 700 people, there are a number of u.s. citizens there.
