>> that's good. i can deal with it. but first, just by looking at the damage, experts say the tornado which touched down near dallas had winds as high as 165 miles an hour. >> and many residents who lost everything are still, though, counting their blessings. abc's kristine dobbyn reports from forney, texas. >> reporter: rob and paula, it was a long day of cleanup here in forney. many of the homeowners got their first chance to see the damage to their homes. in this community alone, the national weather service says winds reached 150 miles an hour. the mayor declared his community a disaster. >> oh, wow! power flashes! >> reporter: after tuesday's violent tornadoes, rescue crews in the dallas area continued to search through the damage and debris for anyone who might still be trapped. the powerful twisters left dozens of homes flattened and produced these incredible images of tractor trailers flying in the air. there have been reports of injuries, but fortunately so far, no one has been killed. >> our outdoor sirens went off.

confirms at least 10 tornadoes touched down yesterday one packing winds of up to 165 miles per hour. despite the hundreds of damaged homes, officials say nobody died. >> it's difficult to look at the damage to the homes and look around the town and call this a situation where we are bless dollars. but if you really think about it, the fact that everybody that woke up in forney yesterday morning is still alive today in forney, that's a real blessing. >> shepard: how did it happen? they are crediting the early warning system and the fact that the twisters hit during the day. even those who took cover had some very close calls. one grandmother describes a sort of tug of war with one twister. she was fighting to hold on to her grandson just by his feet she spoke to this morning's good morning america. >> there was a gush of wind coming through. i felt like it was taking him. i grasped him hardered just to

a frightening swarm of twisters, grounding flights, knocking out power to thousand. some incredible damage all caught on camera. do you see what those are? tractor-trailer rig tossed in the air like styrofoam. no one died in all of this. but for survivors, the aftermath brings a mix of disbelief, gratitude and regret. >> this is ridiculous. my whole house gone. >> my wife could have been in the bedroom, as you see it's gone. my son could have been upstairs in his room that room is gone. >> it hit so quick you couldn't get out of its way. >> i don't know how you go on. i'm sure you will. look at this. there's not a wall. >> weather channel meteorologist eric fisher is live in forney, texas. it is amazing to see images captured on tape. it's like watching a movie but this is the real stuff.
