crucial iowa caucuses are a key test of whether donald trump's grasp on the republican party is vulnerable. his closest rivals, nikki haley and ron desantis, are battling each other and the elements to emerge as the top alternative to the former president. just hours from now, we're learn how strong that appetite is among republican voters. joining me to discuss is the cohost of the atlanta constitution's politically georgia. great to see you. what will you be gauging -- >> great to be with you. >> fantastic. you're here in atlanta, not in snowy iowa. from your vantage point, what will you be looking for? what will you be gauging in tomorrow's caucuses? >> well, i think there are a couple things. we know from all the polling, fred, and you know as well as i do, donald trump is far out front in this race.
and i think the intensity will show tomorrow. >> i think anyone that tells you they can model exactly who's going to turn out in the broader electorate, it's an unknowable. with our folks, they're committed, they're going to be there. we're going have a good night. >> we're seeing a late surge. we're going to deliver a shock to the world monday night. >> cnn national politics correspondent eva mckend is there watching all of the developments on the campaign trail. eva, all right, tomorrow caucuses could indeed be the coldest ever. and this might be one of the coldest eves of the caucuses too. but that's not stopping a lot of those candidates from getting out there. >> reporter: yes, they still very much are getting out there, getting their messages out there. they'll all be out there tomorrow on caucus day, up until the minute. the big question is about turnout. and the truth is, fred, we just don't know at this stage. negative 20, two snow storms
look like in the rural areas especially, where people have to travel a great distance, fred. >> right. no one knows and that's part of the excitement of it all. eva mckend, thank you so much. hopefully people will be really careful as they venture out because these are potentially very dangerous conditions. we have a team of correspondents covering all of the campaigns. let's start with kristen holmes following former president donald trump. minutes ago, he was talking. what's happening now? >> reporter: he just stepped off the stage here in indianola. it was a packed event, the only event he was having over the weekend. he's doing a couple smaller things but those are unplanned rallies after the weather caused him to cancel three of the four rallies he had planned. and you can really feel the enthusiasm in the room. now, as for what donald trump's messaging was, one part of it was don't be complacent. show up and vote. this is something we have heard from him time and time again. we know that he is privately very concerned about the weather. the whole point of what they are
killed in gaza as we hit this 100 day mark. a majority of those women and children. fred. >> all right, jeremy diamond, thank you so much in tel aviv. let's get some analysis now on this. retired army major general spider marks is with us. he's a cnn military analyst and head of geopolitical strategy at academy securities. great to see you. so not only did we see that there was an attack that killed two civilians in northern israel, but it looks like there may have been an incursion into israel from lebanon. how concerned are you about this ever evolving conflict? >> i think this is a steady state of affairs. this will not go away. in fact, i would say this is not surprising, certainly, and it's a limited incursion. it's not a full invasion across the border from lebanon. but this will continue to happen. the mideast is at war right now. the global condemnation of
what are you seeing? >> reporter: yeah, that's right. a very emotional, very moving 24-hour rally has been held at what's become known as hostages plaza in tel aviv. several thousand people have attended this rally at its height. organizers say as many as 120,000 people were in tel aviv last night to attend a portion of this rally. there have been messages, video messages pouring in from politicians and foreign leaders from countries ranging from the united states to france to a number of other countries as well. and all of this comes as we hit 100 days not only of these hostages being in captivity, but 100 days of war as well. and today, the israeli prime minister at that 100-day mark vowing that israel's military campaign will continue for many more months up until israel achieves its objectives of eliminating hamas, a total victory as the israeli prime minister says. at the same time, we know that 23,000 plus people have been

their minds? we still hear from some voters who say they're undecided. really? how could they be undecided? or is there something else that will cement their decision in the next 24 hours, what is the criteria they seem to be measuring, you know, measuring their meddle, so to speak, of these candidates, particularly with this kind of weather? >> yeah, that's right. i think for a majority of caucusgoers they know where they are, who they're going to support. there's some vacillation of support where people are still sort of deciding. fred, i think, we talk a lot about national reporters are dialed in on how cold it is. it is 9 below zero here. but iowans are used to a cold winter. i think the interesting impact of the weather thus far may be on nikki haley because she's got a lot of momentum right now. were it not for the storm, she would have had really strong, i think, really strong events with a lot of energy, exactly what
an anti-tank missile was fired into a village in northern israel from across the lebanon border. israeli media say the dead are a 76-year-old woman and her son. the militant group hezbollah has claimed responsibility for the attack. cnn's jeremy diamond is in tel aviv. there was also a clash between the israeli military and militants who crossed the border from leb mon. what can you tell us about that? >> reporter: that's right, according to the israeli military, four militants crossed into israel from lebanon overnight. those four militants were killed when they were engaged by israeli forces. according to the military, those militants were armed with anti-tank missiles, grenades, and assault rifles. it's not exactly clear who was responsible for that attack or who these militants were
