least six states in the south and midwest, this as kentucky oklahoma and arkansas clean up from the last round of storms. manuel bojorquez reports. >> reporter: there were more than 160 water rescues in louisville after more than six inches of rain fell overnight, stranding cars and flooding homes. >> flooding is going underneath. it's going straight through the building. >> reporter: the same weather systems spawned tornadoes in the plains. this is the destruction in the town of afton, oklahoma. harrison, arkansas, was hit by what people believe was also a tornado. >> so i jumped into the bath tub, heard an awful noise and thought roof went because i heard water coming in. >> reporter: despite the damage, it's been a relatively quiet tornado season with only 40-50 touching down since the beginning of the year. the average is 150. the same large and persistent jet stream that has caused a historic drought in california and a record-breaking winter in the northeast has suppressed severe weather activity in the nation's midsection, but not for long, says greg carbin with the storm prediction center.
