More than 100 people attended "Real Talk About Big Questions," hoping to find some answers to the big question of, "How can the Ohio University community stand with, and support Asian and Pacific Islander populations?"
Dr. Ji-Yeung Jang, interim executive director for Global Affairs, presided over the April 23 virtual event, co-sponsored by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Global Affairs at Ohio University.
“We as a broader community need to have these opportunities to reflect and learn how to actively ally ourselves in support of AAPI (Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander) communities.... It is important that all members of the society stand against hate and in support of our shared humanity as we walk together on the road to a more just society,” Jang said. “This event was a critical start; we all need to play an active and constructive role to bring and embrace diversity and equity in our classrooms, our communities and our workplaces.”

Dear Bobcats,
As we anticipate the verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer accused of murdering George Floyd, our nation, and our University community, continues to grapple with the ongoing trauma and pain of systemic racism.
Like many of you, we have been closely following the trial with hope that the verdict will bring justice to Mr. Floyd and his family and affirm the voices of those who have denounced his death and the racism that led to it.
With many of us left feeling as traumatized in the retelling of this terrible tragedy through the Chauvin trial, there is little doubt that the courtroom proceedings have weighed more heavily on our Black students, colleagues, peers, friends and neighbors.

This year’s Leadership Awards looked a bit different than years past, but the achievements and contributions of Ohio University students were honored with gusto. The virtual event was hosted by the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion.
Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Jenny Hall-Jones emceed the program, noting the altered environment.
“Usually, we cap attendees at 500 maximum, since that is the Baker Center Ballroom’s capacity. But we are not bound by those limitations tonight. For our awardees this means more family and friends are able to share this moment with you. This means that we will be able to see the faces and hear the voices of our individual awardees – something time usually doesn’t allow us to do.”

Today, the Ohio University Board of Trustees affirmed OHIO’s new inclusive excellence strategic plan, which was developed over two years of planning and in close partnership with OHIO students, faculty and staff, and alumni.
“As an institution of higher learning, our very existence embodies the spirit of diversity, equity and inclusion,” Board of Trustees Chair Janelle Coleman said. “We are uniquely positioned to unlock thinking and educate about the value that each and every person brings to our society through our Individual and shared experiences. with the theme “Pathways to Anti-Racism."

Ohio University is hosting a series of free virtual events in honor of Women’s History Month 2021.
The programs and activities can be viewed on the 2021 Women’s History Month website, as well as in the Calendar of University Events.
“During this year’s Women’s History Month, we are thrilled to celebrate the many contributions of women to our history, culture and democracy,” said Dr. Gigi Secuban, vice president for diversity and inclusion. “At a time when our country is facing ongoing challenges related to public health, racism, sexism and rising xenophobia, it is all the more important to reflect on and learn from women’s leadership—past, present and future. I am grateful to the Ohio University Women’s Center and campus partners for their tireless work putting together this year’s exciting calendar of events.”
