Afro-Cuban American artist Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons says her vision for When We Gather, a film and art project launching on Jan. 27, was deeply influenced by remarks from U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman and first woman of color to serve in that role.
The online premiere for the three-minute film, which pays tribute to heroines of the past, visionaries of the present and leaders of the future, will be at 6 p.m. CT on the When We Gather website.

Wendi Norris, founder and president of Gallery Wendi Norris and executive producer of When We Gather, and Justine Ludwig, executive director of Creative Time announced today that the release of the film When We Gather and the accompanying behind-the-scenes special When We Gather: Together, has been postponed one week and will launch instead on January 27, 2021, 7pm EST.
"In the spirit of respect and compassion from which When We Gather was created, we have decided to release the film and special program on January 27," said Norris. "Please join us at 7pm EST on the 27th at www.whenwegather.art as we celebrate this historic moment and honor the heroines of the past, visionaries of the present, and leaders of the future."

A group of seven women artists of color are collaborating to mark the inauguration of Kamala Harris as America’s next vice president with When We Gather, a new artwork presented by New York public art nonprofit Creative Time.
The idea for the project first came to Afro-Cuban artist María Magdalena Campos-Pons the day the November election was called in favor of Joe Biden and Harris.

To celebrate the moment Kamala Harris will get sworn into office, artists Arti María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Okwui Okpokwasili, and LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs have put together a three-minute film directed by Codie Elaine Oliver (Black Love, OWN Network) reflecting on this significant time in history.
Award-winning actress Alfre Woodard will narrate the short film which features choreographed performances by seven female artists showcasing the remarkable women who paved the way for the success of Vice President-Elect Harris.
